Hi everyone. I have to replace both doors on my car and was wondering do I need to pull my finder or can it be done without removing them? also is there anything special that I have to do to convert a manual window to an electric? the same question goes for power locks. the new doors that I have have manual windows not sure about locks. TIA

John- I do not know what a finder is. You may be referring to a fender. I am only trying to help. I have manual windows and locks and believe me they are alot less hassle than the electric ones after 21 years. The real message is that I can give you a copy of the 85 body service manual relating to doors. The 85 body is the same as an 84. Let me know. Brad

ok, I know my spelling sucks. Im trying to quit smoking and I haven't been able to focus as well as i would like. a copy of the 85 body service manual relating to doors would be great. let me know how you would like to send it to me. Thanks very much.

I (my personal opinion) its easier to put the doors on with the fenders on just make sure you tape all the edges of the doors and fenders (anything u dont want chipped)... when you take the old door off leave the hinges on the car, its easier to get to those bolts (the ones on the doors) and to align and make sure you have help.(there heavy) as far as the wiring i dont understand the question...

well It's not really a wiring question more of a mechanical question. like do I have to drill new holes to mount the window motor, track, lock actuators, etc. Just trying to get a feel for what im doing before I take anything apart. I am quite a smart guy and can figure most things out but, if i can save a little time with a better idea of what needs to be done then great. I also think that I need to install new hinge pins. what would you suggest rebuild the hinge still on the car or take them off fully? thanks

Id say take them off....but make sure u get a spring tool for the tension spring...(I got lazy this time but paid for it. just replace the top hinge with a gm for a measly $140 for the ds top) needles to say the ps is getting rebuilt.
good luck

PM me with either your address or fax number and I will copy the shop manual covering our doors. Brad

Brad I PM'ed ya Thanks Again
I just might need to replace the hinge any way. but either way its going to be fixed. Thanks. any other ideas? Thanks again

You can leave the fenders on. As far as adding power windows and locks it can be done. Its even easier if you have the doors ready to bolt on. The only thing I might add is you may have to buy the wire harness inside the car as a manual window car may not have it. My 82 Regal doesn't. As far as I know all the holes are there you just have to remove the plugs.

Thanks. I do have power everything now and the new doors don't. so thankfully all I should need to do is take the old doors off transfer parts reinstall door. correct? so I'm not going to have to drill new holes just maybe some rivets? one of the door is fully loaded so are the window tracks the same or do they need to be changed? TIA

so I could leave the tracks in and just change the regulators or would it be easier to change the whole thing? TIA

Thanks
