Nordy in defense of Scott & your own well being. your a nice guy & I implore you to distance yourself from the obvious before it's too late. The same advise I offer to Ray.let my experience's be a lesson. Don't allow yourselves to be sucked in as I have.Yeah & lets get back to the basics of our hobby's & at least enjoy the next two weeks. Regards Lou

Andrew,

I run the dual Intrepid fans with the adapter harness. One thing I noticed is that due to the heavy current draw through the factory wiring the heat created was such that the weatherpack connector began to melt. I have since modfied the wiring such that the factory harness triggers a relay which has a heavy gauge feed off the back of the alternator. I hope this helps----

I have a couple Intrepid fans and F-body rads sitting in my garage waiting for installation.

Morgan: Where did you get the "adapter" from? And do you have a do you have a pic or diagram of what mod you did? I run 2 gauge wire for Battery and Ground and 4 gauge to the 140 Amp alt. What else is necessary.

Don't mean to hijack the thread. Figure it might have been a question others had...

That helps a lot Morgan. Thanks...I need to try somethings out when I get the car back.

Morgan, If you have pics that would be great.

Yeah Morgan!
I rembemberd running into that. Had one instance where it was blowing the fuse to the power master till I disconnected one of the fans. To my recollection there are a couple of differnt fan kits available .One use's higher amp draw motors than the other. Can't remember which?

Andrew & Lou,

The Intrepid fan kit I have is the one Ramchargers sold on special about two or three years back for around $100; the adapter harness (which is basically about 3" long with the correct connectors on each end) came from Caspers Electronics and cost about $20. My "modded" wiring is close to what turbo39151 describes (39151: I think you and I did the same thing adding a supplementary relay) and is really no different than a home made hot wire kit for a fuel pump. Essentially it's just a heavy fused +12V feed off the alternator to a HD relay...the GND terminal of that relay is grounded, and the +12V "trigger" terminal is triggered by a wire leading off the red wire of the factory fan harness. Finally, the load side of the "added" relay goes to the Intrepid fans.

EDIT: I need to clarify that at first I ran the fans using Caspers fan adapter harness. When I discovered the wiring was overheating, I pulled the adapter harness off and added the supplementary relay circuit I decribed above. Clear as mud?

HTH,
Morgan

What year was that form?

The fans? or Radiator?

Fans I bought in 5/30/06 for 183.74 including tax w/ caspers wiring.

Radiator was a Autozone #217463 $118.69 w/ tax

I love it the car doesn't go over 165 with the RJC front mount ;)

I tried that part number at Autozone.com and it did not find anything.

Maybe this is the only post on this forum that won't get locked.;)

I'm running Spal dual 11" fans I got from some ebay seller's store. I use Caspers wiring harness to make it all work.

I used to have the Ramchargers/Intrepid fans that most everyone uses. IMO they suck because mine crapped out after a year. I used a Racetronix harness with that.

Two days ago I noticed one of my Ramchargers fans was possibly hitting the shroud and not shutting down immediately like the other one when I turned the car off. Today the car was up to 225 degrees  . Popped hood and noticed neither fan running. Then the "good" fan kicked on for 10 sec. and shut off. Drove to mechanic and he said to check the fuses in the wiring harness. Both were blown. Turns out the nut holding the fan came loose and when I tried to tighten it I must have damaged the threads. Nut won't even go on now. This fan is about 3 years old with 20k miles on it, maybe less. My mechanice said he has seen it many times on OE fans. So I will look into Spal fans. Anybody else have problems with Ramchargers fans? Or anybody eles fans for that matter?
