I bought some GN parts from a guy and one of the items in the box was a Dutt neck for a stock intercooler. How much do these help performance? It does look as though it would be an improvement from the stock neck. Any recommendations?

thanks

11.6s so far with one and I know my intercooler isn't holding it back...

Back when Kenny developed the new inlet, he made 20 hp on the dyno. (going off of 20 years of memory here) but he stated himself that the reason for the gain was that he had to re-clock the compressor housing to get proper alignment and that in turn put more load on the wastegate spring which gave it 2psi more boost.

Now with that said...it surely won't hurt. You can also just port away about .150" all the way around the whole inlet and it would probably help the same. I stuff rags in the inlet, then turn it upside down and grind away. Then pull the rags out and blow air through it backwards. Also solvent clean the entire core while your at it. They are usually full of oil. Then install an Alky system and gain ALOT more power potential.

A buddy made over 100 runs with different builds on his GN. He said "the dutt neck made no difference". What I'm trying to say is - TRs don't always respond the same to mods, it's the nature of the beast. Your TR might respond positively or it may not.

Stock intercooler for me maxxed out at about 23Lbs boost no matter how tight i made the rod.adding the dutt neck i was able to run 25 Lbs plus.So the main problem is the stock neck is limited on the amount of boost it can flow....provided u dont port out the factory necks.prob wouldnt add to much gain at all at 18lbs boost

by coincidence, I've just fitted a stock I/C with a dutt neck. With no other alterations it seems that boost just comes on quicker. I do have ported heads etc and i suspect that the motor is now breathing just a bit better.

I cannot weld, and my shop here at home is pretty basic, so for me there's no chance of doing this myself. That means I'm going to have to find a welding shop willing to do something like this. That means the car has to be at the welding shop for the fit up, not something every shop would be happy with. Another way is to just buy a stock I/C with the neck already installed from Brian. I don't know how much a shop would charge to install one, but if they charge by the hour (which could take some time to fit everything and r&r the I/C a couple of times) it might be close to break even. I installed one about two years ago. No problems. Its pretty involved so I left it to someone who can weld. Mine fit perfectly.

I went 11.98 on the stock turbo with a stock neck IC with porting. Was running maybe 26psi. Now Im running 28-29psi on 93 & meth and I think I can get it into the 10s with a decent set of heads, we'll see.

For a mild TR, its a good upgrade that doesn't cost that much.

Just my .02.

What = more gain, dutt neck or streched stock location intercooler?

Nice hijack:rolleyes: But to answer your question.... a SSLIC.

I have had three different I/C's with on my car. Stock, Dutt-neck, Mease.

When switching from from stock to Dutt-neck I noticed quicker spool, that's it. I loosened the WG rod, knowing I might gain boost from the added flow, so boost stayed at 17 PSI after install, but tecnically would have most likely went up if not for me turning the WG rod out 2 turns.

Switching from the Dutt-neck to the Mease SLIC.... now there was big a difference. Even faster spool & I was able to turn the Alky gain down 1/2 notch. The Mease I/C was doing a better job of cooling the air & so in turn not as much alcohol was needed to keep the o2's in line & detonation at bay.

If I didn't run across the good price on the Mease, I'd still have the Dutt-neck I/C. It was sufficient & did just as it was marketed to do 20-some years ago.

Does the stretched Mease have a bigger neck?
