They actually improved my gas mileage from 20 to 24 on my first 120 mile trip. Same results for a 150 mile trip. Then made a 240 mile trip and the car died out at stop lights, could hear knock, and mileage dropped back to 20 mpg. I put in AC Delco plugs and all was well again. Returned them for a full refund. Don't waste your time and money on these plugs. This was in my 87 near stock TR.

If you had done some research, you would have found 1000's of posts from longtime TR owners begging people to please believe that all gimmick plugs are just that.... our cars don't like em....

I heard Splitfire plugs were bad, Kirban sells E3's and he claims he had positive feedback on them. I returned them for a refund and won't make that mistake again.

I just installed NGK UR5's. I hope I made a good choice.

They are fine... no better than the AC Delco's though... just more expensive...

GNRick... the shatfires are just that... more gimmicks....

The best plug (IMO) for OUR applications are the AC Delco CR-4x.... the 'C' denoting 'commercial'... they have a heavy duty ass ceramic AND electrode.... last forever, fire perfect, don't blow the ceramic out the top, available at most of the big box stores... just have to ask for the 'CR' plugs specifically, as opposed to the standard 'R' series.... no new news here... common knowledge for us old-timers since the early 90's...

Nothing but OEM recommended Delco plugs here. No problems. All that other "hype" is just a gimmick and just plain sucks for our cars.

Huh, I've had good luck so far with E3's and E85 but I'm probably close to 300 miles on them so I'll see.

Did you notice anything on the plug tips etc?

There is another E85 GN that's had way more miles with these plugs and he really likes them.

gimmick plugs

Back in the day when the bosch +4 came out there wasn't an option for turbo engines. I found this out at vato-zone. If you think about it plugs should be simple. Not complicated. In a high pressure cylinder application why would you want more mass in the way of the spark? That is my opinion on those type plugs. Nothing wrong for a daily driver or hooptie to drive daily to attempt to get better mileage. I have good luck with the ngk v power. Works great.

Tips looked fine. Tan and white. If the car didn't die out at lights, it did the opposite- it surged with my foot on the brake.

I use the CR- style ac delco and always worked well. I tried the UR5's and it didnt run right and got worse mpg.

IMO a bigger kernel of spark due to more ground strap surface area is good for that much of it. But,...... that same surface area can rear its ugly head in assisting in possibly being more detanation prone.

Youll find that NGK plugs area a better made plug and all you need. As stated before the gimmiky plugs are a waste of money.

Pull Autolite, AC and NGKs out of the boxes new and youll be shocked at how far out of wack the ground strap to electrode centering is on the AC's. But they are a good plug as well. I just want to gap and be done instead of fooling around with center, etc to boot hence the NGK's In my Nissian Skyline R32 the it didnt like anything but NGK's
