I did a search on this damn fuse and it seems like it ties into quite a few items for power.

Here is my issue:

I recently installed Razor's Alky Control and when doing so i routed the wires through the grommet in the firewall by the brake pedal. While doing so i think i pushed back on either or both the stop light switch and cruise control switch, i cant remember. In any case i realized while crusing around the converter was NOT locking up. I pulled over and pushed both switches (plastic threads are a little stripped and will move with force) closer to pedal so that they are depressed when the brake pedal is resting. Soon there after, the SES light pops up and throws code 31 and A/C stops working . I take it home and begin to trouble shoot. I pop in a new 10 amp fuse and start the car. Everything works fine in park and idling. i press the brake multiple times to try and pop the fuse and nothing. I take it for a short drive and the fuse blows. Install another fuse and this time i pull the 4 prong connector at the transmission, take it for anothe spin and the fuse blows. Install another fuse, plug the 4 prong connector back in at the tranny and this time i disconnect the 2 prong connector at the brake pedal with the vacuum hose, i think its the cruise control switch? I drive it around and everything works fine. i dont remember the converter locking up though....

So now i think i may have narrowed it down but not sure. I need to trace this wire down to find out where it is shorting out and why. Anyone run into this scenario before? Seems like everytime i work on this car something always breaks...

Oh yea and my alternator went out during all of this.

That circuit also powers your wastegate solenoid.....

I checked that and didnt notice anything out of the ordinary. I will recheck it. Does anyone have any legible wiring diagrams? The ones on Gnttype are really hard to see...

I searched on our board and found out so far the egr solenoid, cannister purge, wastgate, TCC, high pressure cut out on a/c are all on this circuit. BUT, when i unplug the cruise control switch on the brake pedal the fuse does not blow.

ECM SOL fuse controls solenoids. If you took it for a drive, and it happened once the torque converter lockup engages, I'd suspect the TCC at the transmission. Unplug the four-way connector at the trans, replace the fuse, and take it for another drive.

Yes, that was the first thing did. I unplugged 4 way connector at trans, replaced fuse, drove, fuse blew. :(

The fuse stops blowing when i disconnect the the 2 prong (with vacuum hose) cruise control module above the brake pedal....

OK all, i replaced my faulty alternator(with the 1996 Impala SS version) and in the process i wired a 470 ohm 1/2 watt resistor for the "L" wire coming from the alt and going to the inside of the car on the "Gauges" fuse location. The previous owner had it wired straight to 12v without any resistor or bulb. The volts light has never been connected since i have owned my vehicle. I connected the cruise control switch back and took it for a test drive. NO BLOWN FUSES. Strange, this problem started when my alt started going bad a couple of days ago.

Not sure what to make of it but i am glad it is not blowing any fuses...
