Great glad to hear it work for ya. Guess my pipe must be thicker than yours.

The tool actually comes w/ a tube of Anti Seiz, It says to lube it before every use, makes sense. The piece of pipe I tested it on was an old tail pipe that had probably 8,000 miles on it, so it should work even better on the new stuff. Dave, dont get me wrong this isnt a miricle tool, I had to expand it and then rotate it and expand it again to get it right, but hey, it works. Alright I guess I'll see how it holds up in the long run,

Yedi is on the money, the Tool from Lisle Works.

Used it today with a 3/8" Impact Gun. While it didn't take only 2 min's I was able to accomplished the task of flaring out a 2" in pipe to make a Slip Joint.

Good find.

Wow how did I miss this thread. For future reference, buy the exhaust clamps that accommodate this kind of joint (lap joint style). One side fits snuggly on the O.D. of the exhaust pipe, and the other side is expanded enough to fit around the larger O.D. of the muffler inlet. No need for such a headache and an $80 pipe expander.

I actually did a lot of searching before I found it. The crappy manifold pipe, converter, and intermediate pipe the Muffler shop put on didn't last three years.

I had a stock manifold pipe that I got off another member a while back and only wanted to replace the Cat and what I needed on the intermediate pipe.

So I order both a new Cat and pipe and was able to cut, flange and slip the old pipe in.

I didn't want to replace the whole pipe as that would've entailed dealing with the muffler which would not have taken having the tubes expanded (read rust) after removing those U-Camps so it along with the tailpipe would need to be replaced as well. This was a unexpected project and I wanted to keep costs down.

I used Lisle's Cutoff Tool and it worked like a champ both under the car and on the new pipe working on the garage floor. Will not make the pipe "out of round" if you use it right.

For the record here's the Exhaust / Tailpipe Stretcher I used. They sell more Collet's for it if you need to work with larger pipes.

If you've never used something like this before it takes some figuring out, there aren't any instructions with the package to speak off.

I'm going to order a Torctite Stainless Steel Clamp Monday to finish the install.

How does a Torctite clamp eliminate the need for a pipe expander?

From what I understand, it's a clamp that is placed over a lap joint where one of the pipes has been expanded and slipped over the other.

Its function is similar to that of a u-bolt but with the ability to produce a better seal and less likelihood of warping the pipes like a u-bolt might do.

A band clamp for a butt joint of two pipes of the same diameter would work.
