Ok guys, I need a favor. I need someone to measure the thickness of there factory pinstripes. I know there are two running down the side of the car but I need to know how wide they are. I'm thinking they are 1/16". It would be great if someone could measure how far off the body lines they are and pics of the front point and rear ending spots look like. This is the last thing to do on the Limited!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys! -------Jeremy

When Dan repainted Nancy's car,

Hey Jeremy!

I took these pics (before repaint) of the OEM pinstriping not sure if they help. Are they the same as factory on a non-D84 car? All I know is the factory stripes show up on (single color car) RPO sticker as a two digit number usually with an 'A' in the third position. Don't know why I remember it, I think white w/red was 75A to match interior. The stripes on her car have no codes as they are included in the D84. HTH

New Year is treating you all well??????

I'm mostly back to my grouchy old self - crappy cold and all. Looking forward to seeing the LTD etc.

Gotta stop down your way one of these days. I still want the molding.

The days are getting longer!!!!! Not much but its the right direction.
Bob

Here are some pics and measurements from a D84 Two Tone we have here at GBodyParts. As far as placement goes I discovered that both sides of this car are different. It appears to be damage free and original paint as far as I can tell. Anyway the top of the stripe on the passenger side which is in the pics have the stripes top edge right on the body line where as on the drivers side the stripe is about 1/16" to 1/8" lower than the edge of the bodyline. Here's what I measured. The gap between the body line and the top stripe is 1/8".The top stripe is 1/16" wide. The gap between the 2 stripes is 1/8". The lower stripe is 3/32". The pics look a little strange because there is frost and snow on the car.

I thought the pinstripes came to a point in the front and didnt run around the header panel? Maybe just on the two tone cars?

You're right.

I thought the pinstripes came to a point in the front and didnt run around the header panel? Maybe just on the two tone cars?

I was thinking the stripes were only similar width and spacing but now I'm not sure about that either. Big help huh?!

I know I looked at both a black and a white 86/87 T with pinstripes that came to a point. The owners of both cars claimed it was factory.

Hopefully someone will come up with some pictures of OEM pinstriping on single color Regals.

I'll do some digging for pictures. Also there is a local guy with a white (red inside) 85 T that I think has stripes - now if I can just find his #.

Later.

So I can add a little to this. I went and scanned a few pictures from my dealer book. They weren't as clear on the stripes as I had imagined they were.

It looks to me like the factor stripes were two equal width stripes. It's hard to tell from the pictures so I'm sort of guessing here.

I would be hard pressed to tell what is an actuall factory stripe as a lot of dealers chose to do the striping themselves.

I sent him a PM too. hopefully he can take some measurements and give us a hand! Thats looks like the original stripes though! WOO HOO getting closer! Thanks! ------Jeremy

My car USED TO have a factory grey stripe. (I think it Will Again one day) The car in the link definitely looks like original. Note how the striping stops under the mirrors.

I thought you were talking about 2-tone stripes. Sorry we don't have any cars with the accent stripe on the lot to take a look at. I don't think that T-Type has factory accent stripes. What I can tell you is that the RPO code is D90 and the color of the stripe will be a number ending with the letter "A". So 75A would be red. Now the stripe color is supposed to match the interior color or vinyl roof color "whenever possible" according to the dealer order album. The only stripe color Not Available for the 86 T-Type was Medium Sage 45A probably because you couldn't order a T-Type with the light sage metallic paint either. According to the Dealer Order Album recommended interior color along with recommended vinyl top color(vinyl top NA on T-Type) for silver cars is blue, gray or red. Which leads me to think that the factory stripe color for that car would have been dark gray. But the real clue that they aren't factory is the fact that the D90 option is the only stripe available in 86 and they were two color stripes. For example your 75A code would have a light red for the top stripe and a dark red for the lower stripe. Reguardless of the color the upper stripe will always be a lighter color than the lower stripe. I thought I had read somewhere that stripes weren't available on the T-Type but it isn't worded that way in the DOA. I guess until the seller posts the codes off the SPID label than I'm guessing at this time that those stripes aren't factory installed.

Edit: I also show the stripe running underneath the mirror for the entire length of the car according to the illustration in my 44W parts catalog. No broken sections anyway.

My car is an 87 Limited T Type. On my window sticker, I have the 75A option, which is Red and was $45. So you say his stripe should be two different colors? Do you know the widths of the two stripes and the distance between them?

Boy I must have been on some good meds when I posted all that crap in my last post. Okay here's the straight scoop. The D90 stripe is the code for the D84 Two-Tone cars. I was looking at a half assed parts catalog when I wrote that BS. Now to make it up to you I did find an 84 Regal on our lot with the accent stripe. The correct RPO code on it is D85. I could find no reference if this is the correct RPO for the 87 Limited or Regal. Now the car we have is a light jadestone metallic with a paint code of 48. The code for the stripe is 42A which should also be a jade color....I think? The stripes on our car are white and IMO don't match anything color wise on this car. It's a triple jade. Jade paint, interior and vinyl top. And this car has the original paint and the stripes look just as original too. I've included pics of the SPID label and certain areas of the car to give you an idea of how they run. The top stripe is 1/16" and the bottom is 1/8" wide with a 1/8" gap between the two stripes. Notice how the stripe runs completely under the mirror with no breaks. Someday when I get the time I'll search through my SPID label file and see how many XXA coded cars are on there.IIRC there weren't to many.

Wow I like that color!!! thanks for that info. Now I'm a little confused whether to break the stripe or not? And whether to do 2 1/16" stripes or an 1/8" stripe on the bottom. I would think these would be standard?

The pics Turbofish posted are Not at all like the factory painted stripes on an '87. (Don't know if correct for '84's) The '87 stripes have the wider stripe on top. In the front where the two stripes meet they come to a rounded point, not a flat end. Also, the stripes definitely do Not go under the mirror. The stripes in the pictures look like they are about 1/2" to 3/4" too low. They should be running closer to the body line. Again, I am refering to '87's. The stripes on the car in the earlier link look correct. Somebody Must have an original '87 with original factory painted stripes Somewhere

Here's another thread I found. http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/sh...59467-factory-pinstripe-need-little-help.html And I have a pic out of the 1985 Buick Dealer Album that shows a 1985 T-Type Regal with the accent stripe and it also runs underneath the mirror like the pic of the 84 I posted. As soon as I can scan a clear copy I'll post it. I have a hard time believing that Buick would have changed the design of the accent stripe for the 86-87 models. I mean the 85-87 Regals shared the same exterior paint and same interior colors and options so it makes sense to me that Buick would have kept the stripe pattern the same. But than again we have seen stranger things with these cars. I'm still looking for a pic of an 87 with those stripes.

Yep I read that thread too but not to much info there. I cant believe this freakin pinstripe is that rare that NOBODY has them on their cars?????? Jesus, I should hit up Barret Jackson with this car. I wonder how many Limiteds have my options. I would imagine there are not many!

The photos I posted above are from the 86 dealer album show them breaking across the mirror.
