A couple more. Note how the stripes run closer to the body line than on the '84 pics.

Good pics, so I am assuming the top stripe is 1/8" and then a 1/16" between and then a 1/16" stripe. Do you have any pics on how the front stripes come together and how the rear stripes end?

Anoher question, I wonder what tint of "RED" were the "RED" pinstripes. Paint supply store has Tomato Red, Dark Red, and Burgandy. The car is white with maroon interior. I would think the burgandy would like best but thats my opinion and my opinion doesnt really matter because I want this thing to be "ORIGINAL"!!!!!

Well I think your in luck. I happen to have a 20 year old GM catalog that has paint codes for stripes. Just like the exterior(and interior) every color has a code. My book doesn't have a page for the 1987 model year but it does have 1986. Now assuming that 86 and 87 are the same especially after the pics that T-CHRGD posted(great reference material BTW) than the 75A code has a Fisher Body paint code of 4721. You might have to make that read WA4721 if you go to a paint specialty shop. Here's a list of the other stripe codes from the Dealer Order Albums and Standard Parts Catalog #89.
11A White=3967
18A Dark Gray=8291
19A Black=848
28A Dark Blue=8659
45A Medium Sage=8673
55A Gold=8589
65A Brown=8672
75A Red=4721

Some of those codes are the same as the exterior paint codes. I.e. Black=848 and White=3967.

Is the distance between stripes 1/8" or 1/16"? I'm going to have my buddy that owns a paint supply store here and also painted my car reference that color code and do a reference on the stripes he sells to verify which shade of red it is!

The Codes Turbofish posted are the Same for '87, according to my '87 dealer album. The pics I posted were zoomed in at the max limit for the camera I had here. I will try to find more / better pics and post over the W/E.

Hey Jeremy and guys,

The Rosewood car in the closeup is mine. Original paint and painted stripes. It's on a lift and need to move another car to lower it (yeah I know, nice trouble to have).

If it warms up and I can break up the ice outside of my garage, I will move the cars and take measurements if still needed. Or maybe I'll be smart and use a stepladder.

Also, if I remember correctly, Brian's yellow blackout T-Type is a black tape stripe-- again, not positive on this. May have been done when delivered at the dealer, don't know. But may want to double check before measuring, etc.

Great! Yeah any info would be fantastic!!!! I have my Limited practically done, just need to figure out this pinstripe deal!

I'm also curious on what tone of "RED" the factory "RED" pinstripes were. My car has maroon interior and I think it would look funny with RED pinstripes butI will do whatever came from the factory!

Without an 'archeological' reconstruction of your particular car, the correct striping seems lost. I see pics here that are all correct and yet different. Some of the cars pictured have clearly been repainted despite being billed as not, some other's are plainly dealer installed striping. Not factory original, as evidenced by nicks in the plastic stripes or overlapping stripe tape at the corner or on the end-cap. Whereas the painted on stripes fade and wear thin to disappear instead. I used to do alot of that on both new cars and especially used trade-ins to jazz them up a bit for sale. You can literally rub the factory stripes off with laquer thinner, buff, clean, and replace with tape for a quick sale of a cleaner car.

What I just measured on my 82 Ltd is 1/8" dn. from bodyline is narrow stripe(1/16") then 1/8" dn. to 3/32" wider stripe. Regal-nut just sent me a pic of his 86Ltd and his is 5/16" down to the top stripe. Obviously, assembly line building will make slight variations on how far down to the first stripe. The size of stripes and gap between is standard. The same as 3M striping tape. I've also seen the thicker stripe on top as shown well by T-chrgd on T-Types. And the dual 1/8"(maybe it was also 3/32") stripes are shown exactly as factory installed on two-tones, like shown on the silver/gray car early in the post. But I believe they were actually using tape for those. Maybe an historian can clear that up. I seem to recall that they were, and used specially formed tape ends both front and on the endcaps.

Not sure if this helps but I dug up a few -not so good- pics of my pinstriped GN before it was redone. There is flash in the pics and seems to make it look lighter than it was-almost pinkish. The red was pretty red from what I recall...

They should be the same of all years. I have a dealer book for 84 and the codes are the same. There are also some additional stripe codes listed.
14A Light Sand Gray
15A Silver
25A Blue
42A Light Green

Pretty interesting post. I have owned a few of these Buicks and Cutlass and just want to add each seemed a little different as far as stripes go.
My T Type according to this info has never had stripes, the first of these cars I have owned that didn't and it looks odd to me without them.
As mentioned above it doesn't take much to remove the stripe. I did that once on a cream Cutlass to put a nice crisp stripe on it before selling it.

Weren't there still actual Craftsman at GM at this time hand painting the stripes? I thought I read that somewhere. I could see each artist putting their own touch on them, kind of like their own signature.

From my understanding they were painted on by hand. They had a jig that was suspended over the car and dropped down to the correct point on the car. Than the assembly line guys ran one of those Bugler style pinstripe rollers like you can buy out of Eastwoods down the side of the car. They also had the same style of jigs to apply the name plates and the emblems in the correct locations.
