Does anybody have any factory spec documentation on curb weight for a 1986 turbo regal? I want to prove to my insurance company that my curb weight is heavier than they say it is. This will save me some money on my insurance since they are sur-charging me for curb weight to horsepower ratio.

I would like to get some documentation faxed to me so I can send it to the insurance company.

You check the sticker on door?
Take it to a truck stop and have it weighed.

ive got one book shows the GNX at 3545 , w 1/2 tank of gas
you should be close with the ttype rims but it still depends on how your car is optioned (ttop, pwr seat,pwindows,) , most racetracks have a scale , either way i think your still going to be in surcharge range since they look at published figures , if they weighed your car then dynoed it youd probly owe even more , try another company that may not look at that , or you might try classic insurance companies
one company i looked at listed my 87gn as High power sports car and the premiums were higher ,
last year i had my 7910thta , 87Gn , 90 laser and my 91 4x4 blazer with a company here in NJ (selective) and the laser was higher than all of them being designated as a sports car , the Gn and TA didnt cost any more than a std model

I figured out how they arrived at the number for the ratio. The took the factory documented weight of a base model regal (3380 pounds according to them) and divided it by the factory horsepower (235 for my 1986 t-type) and got 14.38. Any number below 14.7 gets the sur-charge tacked on. I know my car is heavier than 3380 with T-roofs, power seat , power windows, etc etc.

To get over the 14.7 the car had to weigh 3460 pounds.

Just looking for some factory documentation on the turbo regal for proof.

I know my horsepower is not "factory" but they don't need to know that.

My door sticker is long gone. Thought about the truck stop deal. May use that idea.

I've got bad news for you. Curb weight is just that. It's relationship to actual weight isn't clear to me. For example, I know for a fact that the curb weight of an 87 GN is 3,212 pounds, whereas the actual weight may be more like 3,600 pounds.

Your mission is to convince your insurer to use actual weight. Then again, if you're successful in convincing him to do so, he may want to use actual HP (about 280 for a bone stock intercooled TR, according to Duttweiler, and who knows what yours is now)

Curb weight for an 87 GN is 3349 (this according to Manufacturer Motor Vehicle Specifications for a 1987 Buick GN with Y56T package).

Curb weight is the same as shipping weight, as delivered with a couple of gallons of gas, no driver. If anybody has a build sheet it will be on there but be warned the figure will be less than what you think it should be. The best bet is to try and convince them to use the actuall weight.
Curb weight..Rated horsepower...Who is your insurance company?...the NHRA?

Ummm, according to GM, shipping weight is lighter that curb weight. Shipping weight is 3278.4 according to GMs spec for 1987 GN with Y56T package. Curb weight is defined by SAE spec J1100.

Y56 is the T package - it's not available with the GN...

That's what I was wondering! I've had GN's insured with Nationwide and State Farm and both considered it a "luxury car" .

Had claims against both (one hit from rear, one stolen )

Other than the low-ball figures they came back with on the theft, no problems.

I was taking delivery of my brand new 1986 GN and as I was sitting in the showroom, my salesman shows me that very article.

Coincidence? Nah!
