Anyone using the fiberglass bumper with the OE bumper supports on a street/ strip car?
thinking of using the aluminum bumper shock replacements the aluminum bumper support and the fiberglass bumper.
It would still be weight saving and have some protection.
What do you guys think??

You can gut the factory shell and use alum supports, the path you are describing, does not remove the bulk of the weight

OK, yes if you have am alum front support and shock replacement you will save weight, but you can also order a powdercoated steel shell from G-body, add the lightweight bumper support, and alum "shocks" wish I could remember the application for the smaller lightweight supports, I bought a couple sets in the 90's

Or you can get a set of the export bumper supports and jus use the shell of the bumper and the lightweight aluminum shocks ...since the bumper shell doesn't weigh that much but you would still have better protection than a fiberglass bumper. The way I figured it was if I hit something with my front bumper its my fault LOL. More then likely I would get rearended hence the reason I'm keeping the full bumper support in the rear. Cover you ass! LOL Joel

BTW I think Conrad has a set of the export supports up I'm the for sale section.

Friend has stock bumpers, put on aluminum supports.. no problem, pretty sure the supports are much lighter.
Another has fiberglass front bumper on stock supports.

Inducted my GN back in to the "shop" last night, the fiberglass front bumper and hood install is on the short list, will take a look at things.
I have my own design Alum shock replacements, export supports and gutted steel shell right now, my brakes are rock solid, so it is the asshole behind me i am worried about. After the last rearend collision I got a reman bumper from G-body and installed an alum insert that I black anodized, need to put my shocks there too, but the body shop finished it.

You can just hack the center section off and use the ends that mount the frame to the bumper

il be putting a fiber glass bumper on my stock suport i already have 60 % of the front support cut off theres just enaugh left to suport the fiber glass bumper im pretty shure i cut alot of wieght light that and much cheaper

Who makes G-Body's fiberglass bumpers? Anyone tried a VFN bumper? Who makes the best rear fiberglass bumper?
Conrad

It's probably vfn, I have no complaints about mine from gbodyparts.

Anyone else have issues fitting the parking lights in ?
My bezels will not flush out, short of trimming the backs of the housings, they are bottoming on the mount points, pretty sure this is not one of Brians, just wondering.

They don't fit flush, mine are mounted to the two fiberglass tabs on each side. It works, and no one can really tell untill you are up close.
