Well the insurance co. gave me $1600 for the hail damage to the hood, roof and trunk,,so not knowing if this is enough $$$ to fix it properly,I wanted to see if Fiberglass was a better option ,so less work ould have to be done on the hood and trunk,,I know I have no choice but to have the roof repaired ,what do you think ,,Repair hood and trunk or replace with Fiberglass

Thanks

I think it would depend on what your ultimate goal is. If you want original, the choice is steel. Perhaps even replacement parts rather than fix the damage. If you don't care about original and you want to save weight to go faster, go glass. ;)

hows the quality of the glass,,does the turbo fiberglass hood lok 100% the same ,,that is what I would want ,,glass that looks identical to stock...
:)

Since on this subject.

AA I would be carefull about using fiberglass on your car if street driven daily. I would assume less protection for you & the TR if hit.

How much can he really save with the trunk lid?
I hear every 100lbs you remove you gain 1.10th sec?

Also you will need soft springs or no springs so the fiberglass hood won't kink.

My 3 cents for tonight;)

Dpending on the manufacurer...about 50lbs and problably more labor to get the glass right at the body shop.

FWIW, I might be interested in buying your damaged hood. Send me a PM if you decide you want to sell.

Any glass hood that I've seen would take mucho work to get it looking remotely stock. The fit and finish just isn't as good as metal. I have seen a few glass hoods where the owner spent quite a bit of time block sanding and smoothing and it looked presentable, but just not stock appearing at anything closer than 5 feet. If someone didn't know TRs, it might pass but IMHO, stay with metal unless you are concerned with every last bit of weight savings.

I'll tell you one thing for sure, don't have some body shop fix all those dents. I guarantee you it'll look like doo-d00. At least pick up a replacement steel hood and trunk if you don't go for the fibreglass.

fiberglass

joe,

my car had fg bumpers, hood,&trunk they bolted on and had no fitment problems.........as a matter of fact i never even painted them and when you put some dri wash on them you couldnt even tell thhey were glass......and btw the trunk saved more weight than the hood

this stuff was all bolt on and used all of the stock bracketry

Please post who made the parts and/or the vender you got them from. There are so many shoddy parts out there and horror stories to back it up, people (including me) would love to know about quality parts. What about the trim at the rear of the hood? How does the underside look? you must have had to replace the gas struts... the stock one's are balanced for the weight of the metal hood.

Call Bruce at Aggressive Performance and ask him where he got the hood for my car. It was painted, and I tell you, you will not be upset, I am thrilled at the quality of the hood and the fitment. The painter said he did not have to spend much time with it.

jack cotton and cal hartline sell the fg parts ....... as for the struts i used1 strut and it worked fine the under side looks factory has ll bracing and would accept the stock hood liner
