For those leary of pulling their own tranny

I just pulled my first transmission with my car on jackstands, in my driveway, and with basic hand tools. For those who may think it is an impossible job, it's actually not as bad as it seems. It was actually harder changing the valve springs out than doing this. It just takes patience and the proper tools. I know it's no big deal to some people hearing this, but I'm happy as hell because I just saved myself a sh!t-ton of time, money, and aggravation.

I'm hoping the re-install goes just as easy!

I think I'd rather do 5 sets of valvesprings before I do another transmission on my garage floor.
I'd definitely go bananas if I had to do it in the driveway.

Just took mine out for the 2nd time in 10 years. Hardest part really is getting the car high enough to get the trans out. Having a good jack is the key.

Its not so bad if you only have to do it 1 time.It really starts to suck if it doesnt work and you have to pull it back out again.

I use an old set of 4 steel wheels and put under each corner of the car and jack stands for extra safety. Having the rear up helps with clearance.

good job man, i just pulled myne a month ago in a 10x20 storage unit with hand tools, but i pulled the motor and tranny together. I havent put it back together though:redface: hopefully it goes good

For a while there i was pulling mine so much thought I was going to have to put studs in the bell housing bolt holes.

Lonnie Diers put a stop to that. His stuff rocks.

I can have mine out (just me) on the ground, torn down to the center support in my Garage, no lift in about 1.5 hours.

TC & Upper bell housing bolts are the biggest pain/time consuming IMO

I had mine out 8 times,all to figure out my 2-3 flare.kept burning the clutches trying to figure it out.And it was my own stupid fault i never payed attention to the servo,it was a 200 servo,i put a GN servo in it and it fixed the flare,lol.

Mine was in and out four times before I got it right, last go it was out and tore done in 2 hours, first time it took about 3 hours just to get it out!

The bell housing bolts are easy!

The Trick: Need a wobble socket and about four feet of extension. Even if you never need the socket again it is worth it for this one job.
