OK, can i stress the fact not to buy a 6.0 ford diesel?

July 23rd ish

Truck #2, had low fuel pressure, shut down 100 miles from work, truck is a f550 with the 6.0 ford diesel at 3500 miles

Towed it to ford, 5 days later  they said it had a blown oil oring on #5 injector.

Guess what happened again 70 miles from work this morning?
Low fuel pressure on the rail
Truck has 6200 miles on it

Take a guess how long it will be before they can LOOK at the truck?

1 WEEK

This is at a major diesel ford stealership with hundreds of ford broken down sitting in their lots..

What a joke.
Just think if this was someones personal pickup truck... or if you were on a long distance trip, or making a 1500 mile round trip in 2 days..
Thank god they are going to the 6.4 diesel, it will probably be just as bad.

Yeah, i wont be selling the dodge EVER!!!

BW :)

The 6.4 will have common rail injection, no oil operated injectors on this one. It will have twin turbos to get away from the VVT on the 6.0's. It will also have a filter on the exhaust, we will see about that one. I have an 04 F-350 with 51,000 miles and have had to have two turbos replaced because the vanes were sticking and one oil leak that they fixed. Wished they put the Cummings into the Ford.

I agree. I transport cars for Ford Motor Credit. For the past year I have been moving RAV's, which are Re-Acquired Vehicles. Basically this is cars that have had reoccuring issues and Ford will buy them back to avoid lemon lawing them and having tons of them worth nothing. Last year I moved 347 vehicles for them and at least 300 of them were 6.0 diesels. There were problems from the get go with them and they have yet to get it right. It varied from injectors to dead pedal caused by wiring being too short.

It is a funny thing to see a Dodge 3500 dually carrying three Ford duallys on the trailer. Gotta love the Cummins.

Thats funny about the VVT sticking, that is exactly what happened on truck #1 with 300 miles on it.. The boost was going all over the place, ford took over a week to replace it.
I did some research, seems that guys are cooking the turbos to get the scammer out of them to clear up the VVT.. Basically unplugging the electronic side, bringing it up to temp, then shutting it off, something just simple like that and it fixes them 99% of the time..
Basically a nice BBQ cookoff under the hood fixed alot of that issue with the vvt!!

Ford sells alot of these trucks, thats why they dont want to do a recall..

Tow truck guy today says thats all he hauls, new 6.0 fords, very little dodges and chevies (diesels)
He also said that the stealership had over 60 broken 6.0s there...

This morning i contemplated going to work for ford.... job security!
Honestly ive been at my current job for 9 years, i would change if i could make 90 - 100 a year.

Man i need to open a shop...

Shame they went away from the 7.3 to this junk 6.0, I havent had to work on many 6.0's but maintain a fleet of 1999-2000 F550(and one 2002 F550)tow trucks for NYC and they have been great. Of the over 30 trucks only one engine let go(was badly overheated - 375,000 miles), two transmissions, two rears, and one turbo.

I've worked for Cummins for 20 years...I'll pass this thread to a few friends. Always nice to see our mid-range products doing well.

We just announced a V6/V8 diesel partnership w/Chrysler...in production in 2010...should be very exciting.

I'm a Heavy Duty engine guy (N14 and ISX 15L)....and love to see the ACERT CAT....what a bunch of claptrap!! PACCAR, long time CAT ally, asked us to increase sales to them in '07 (the CAT claptrap gets much worse in '07 and PACCAR is scared of it)...so we will supply 50% (they wanted more but our production lines are at capacity) of PACCAR in '07 and beyond. Life is good here :)

The late 98.5 and 2000's is all ive worked on at work in our fleet, i drove a 99 f-450 for 200K.. They are good trucks overall.
Here was my complaints with those.
Injectors going out all the time blowing white smoke
Input shafts on 6 speeds because of the factory bronze(too harsh pilot bearing) kevlar fixed it everytime, but 1600 for a rebuild...ouch.
Cam sensors, cam sensors, cam sensors, cam sensors
AC pressure switch, always eats wiring at the switch cause the motor rattles too much, good blue butt connector fixed them all the time.
Heating element inside the fuel can shorting out.
Blowing rear diffs
Door switches, no interior lights, or they stay on all the time. LOL
Not starting in the winter when its -10° out, truck plugged in.
Tensioners getting worn out and eating 1/3 of the belt, but still able to drive 30-40K on 2/3's of a belt

The 6speed trans is bulletproof other than the factory pilot bearing, i cant believe those trans are that strong!!!

I know all trucks break, but if its every damn week, jimminy crickets it can get expensive.
Sad today, had to break out the 7.3 with 289K f-f450 low on compression truck and substitute the NEW truck twice in the past 30 days...
Still the original motor and trans, only 17 injectors in it so far

Cant wait for the 6.4

Well guy's I have said it and argued this for a long time here and other boards, I work there and build trucks not the superduty but the F150's, but I know how Ford operates. And as I have said before I work there but don't own a Ford and wouldn't have one up my a$$.

And I know there are people who will say well they pay your bills, yes they do, but probably not for long, they will be paying Pedro's bill's because that is where these jobs are going, and have already gone.

I have to stop before I get high blood preasure, all I have to say if you guy's only knew what goes on in that place.

Im a ford diesel master tech, i work on these POS's all day for a living.. "which is a pretty good living" thats why i drive a cummins powered dodge, when im not in my TR
