Ford 7.3 diesel mod.????

I know a guy that has just sunk a load of $$ in his and is having a problem with the boost dropping considerably when it shifts. He said it will go to about 50# and drop back to about 6# after the shift. Any input?? I know nothing about this. Thanks alot in advance!!
