Does anyone have a recommendation for a four post lift.

I am having a new garage built this spring and I am going to buy a lift (4 post) and I was wondering what lift everyone recommends. I have a vendor in Indy that sells Atlas and Direct Lift brands.

Do a search in the lounge and there is a couple threads.

I am currently trying to decide on a 4 or 2 post myself.

I have a Bend Pak 4 post. Had it for the last 7 years with no issues. I recommend getting a rolling jack with it.

I did a search and nothing came up by using (lift) as the search word.

I have decided on a four post for two reasons.

1. Four post doesn't require anchors in the floor:D
2. With the GN having 4 foot long doors a two post would be a little scary:eek:

The other thing I like about a four post is the rolling jacks. I am looking at the Atlas with two sets of rolling jacks so I will be able to lift the entire car off the wheels.

I am in the process of buying a couple lifts and the Direct-Lift is the brand I picked.

One reason is they are a national company, as it is from Rotary which is the largest manufacturer of automotive lifts.

This means parts and service are easily available.

The Direct-Lift is made in China, not Indiana, to their specs, and of course at a lower price and less features.

Most other lifts are made in China, but at least Rotary being in the US receives the retail profit on these lift sales. :)

I have used a Backyard Buddy for 10 years. They are made in OHIO.

I know your post didn't ask for opinions but I wish to share my experience. I bought a two post lift from Bend Pak almost 5 years ago and have not regretted one aspect. I am so thankful that I got the two post lift as the majority of the work I do on my cars I would find myself fighting the ramps of a 4 post lift. Almost anything - tranny work, exhaust work, fuel tank - is far easier with a two post. Yes, the two post install required bolting it to floor and I insured stability with pouring 6 inch concrete instead of the usual 3-4 inches. Just trying to be helpful. Any lift will be a pleasure compared to lying in a pool of tranny fluid!

I didn't say that direct lifts are made in Indiana but they have a vendor in Indianapolis. The vendor is Greg Smith Equipment Sales and it is a nationwide company. The company says they have all the accessories for the lifts. I am going to get a four post with drip pans and rolling bridge jacks.

I have looked at the Backyard Buddy. I just haven't talked to anyone with one.

I am looking to spend around $2500 and I want to get the best lift for the money. The reason I have looked into the Atlas and Direct lift is that they have a vendor and showroom in Indianapolis so I can pick it up on my trailer and not have to pay for delivery.

I am very interested in everyone's opinions. The two post lift scares me too much. The thought of the lift tipping is a reoccurring nightmare.

My wife's cousin has a direct lift and I have used it but I just don't know if it is the best for the money. Just trying to get the most for the money.

if you plan on working on your car get a 2 post if you plan on just using it for storage get the 4 post.

i have both and you get do much real work on the 4 post.

installed right the 2 post lift will not fall over i have rotary lifts that have picked up cars and trucks 10 a day for over 10 years with no issues and very little maintance also no problem opening doors the lifts are offset to allow for that

4 post "Forward" here.. Way overkill for what I needed BUT I can put a truck on it if I wanted. Ya I have an air operated jack that rolls under the car . Easy to do pinion angles and its great to use as an adjustable table when your doing transmissions  Plus I didn't want to be bending down all the time to push the lift arms under the car that ya do with a 2 post .. Oh NOT fun with a low car as a TTA either.

Gemini Auto Lift

Made in Texas.

Reasonable price.

Welcome To Gemini Auto Lifts! American Made Car Lifts, Auto Lifts, Parking Lifts, Trailer Lifts and Custom Lifts

Mine is 2 post & I put down 8" of concrete under & about 3' outside the lift area (was building a new garage). Easier to work on a 2 post, however, a 4 post has its advantages.

Look at your new car dealers shop area & normally they have about a dozen 2 post & only 2 each 4 post lifts.

If money is no object, the best 2 post is one with the posts in the floor & the car is on top of them (allows doors to be opened no matter what height the lift is & you can even drive over it at any angle when its down)

Rotary Lift

i spent a few months and talked to quite a few people on the same decision u are facing
i went with a rotary four post lift 220V (much faster) as I was told by multiple people and shops it was the best or at least one of the best

the main thing is to avoid anything under 2K as its all chinese (Usually) and make sure the entire system was made in the USA

I self assembled and wired mine which took me awhile as I work slow but saved 600 bucks

you also need to decide how much room (width) and ceiling height you will have if thats an issue as lifts come in several sizes.

I have 4 post lift

each type has its advantages, and draw backs, get what works for you!
look at extra long and/or extra wide, and possibly extra tall,
I bought extra long so my pickup will safely fit, extra tall so I can drive my pickup under it to get my trailer from back yard,
and extra wide so my trailer will fit beneath it when I pull it from back yard,

the cost is very little for the extras, and well worth it!
also buy the caster wheels so you can move the lift around.
I bought the alum ramps, at the end of the day when your tired, the lighter weight of the alum ramps sure helps out on the back!
