Gotcha! Scrap yard ... here I come:biggrin:
I can use the 5.7 Chevy lifters on a 400sbc I'm putting together... I hope.

My research says no..... even the 350's and 400's that didn't come originally with hyd rollers will need the short 60 deg V6 lifter if you plan on poor-boying the conversion. The later factory hyd roller blocks have taller lifter bores to accomidate the taller hyd roller lifters more commonly found in the 90 deg V6's and V8's......

Good to know! Thanks save me a lot of time and some money.
I'm sure other people had questions about the compatibility of these 5.7 parts just like I did. It served its purpose so nobody takes this route.:D

To use dog bones from 96 -up chevy do they need to be machined in any way and how would they mount in the lifter valley in our engines ..?

i bought a new set of melling roller lifters for a 95 3.1L and they look just like the stockers. i have part number if anyone is interested.

Please post it for us following this.

Some specs of the biggest of the fwd roller cams I could find info on are as follows:

1986-88 3.8-3 V6:
193/193 at 0.050", 276/276 adv. dur, .380"/.380" lift (w/1.55 rr), 111.5 LSA, 4.5 deg advanced
Melling MC836, Clevite 229-2176, S/P CS-836

1988 3.8-C V6:
193/193 at 0.050", 282/282 adv. dur, .422"/.422" lift (w/1.55 rr), ? LSA deg ? advanced
Melling MC1233, Clevite 229-2211, S/P CS-852 & CS-1452

As you can see, they are about as big as the stock cam.

The other gn in the photo I built for my friend..It should run low 11's in the 1/4 mile with pump gas and razor's alky kit..

lifters can be purchased from autozone, advanced discount auto parts, car quest etc.. or dealer, and also salvage yard..
as far as the dog bones, the cheapest place would be your local salvage yard..not sure about dealer, but if they have them they won't be cheap.

Best bet is the salvage yard and have the lifters disassembled and cleaned..

Finally got the car down to the track. From an idle off the line ran a 11.63@124.87 :D Having fuel pressure problems...will have to get that resolved before making anymore runs. The motor is in my 84' Hurst Olds.

good to hear..what is your combo?

I've been driving mine on a regular basis with no problems.(every chance I get).I will take to the track soon..I need to change my converter, get some drag radials and boost controller. My car has alot of top end power,so I try to take it easy on the street...my street tires are bald as they can get from all the burnouts..(lol)

Champion iron heads with matching intake, custom 206/206 roller, .020 hyper pistons, 6057BB turbo, stock intercooler with Duttweiler neck, 3" TH DP, Edge L/U 2600-2800 converter, 60lb injectors, TT chip, Razor's Alky.

Nice street combo..How much boost with your stock intercooler w/dutt neck?

How high do you run the RPM? I really want to do my next engine this way, but I want to run it to 6000 - 6200. I am figuring on a medium lift 212 roller cam.
