I've been looking into painting the garage floor with some epoxy paint.
The home depot sells a rustoleum kit for painting the floor but I also noticed they carried plastic tiles and larger mats that can be laid down. Has anyone used any of these products on their garage floor. My concern with the epoxy paint is the car jack and stands will tear it up. It already has torn up the concrete in areas. I was thinking maybe the plastic tiles would be a better choice.

Not sure where you are located but I went all out on expensive epoxy for my new garage floor 3-4 yrs. ago and the first time the doors froze to the floor the door came up and the epoxy came with it. The epoxy has been eroding ever since. Next time it will be good ole garage/basement floor paint.

Paint kit

I used the Quikrete paint kit from Lowes. Everything was included. Took one long day to complete, and a couple of days to dry. Worked out great. It may not hold up to the jackstands and scratchy stuff, but it is a garage, after all.

I use the rustoleum product. I prepped my floor as per instructions and the stuff is bullet proof ! I've had gas leaks with no lifting if the coating.
In my opinion its the best...

I too used the rustoleum etch/epoxy kit about (2) years ago and love it. I really hate painting the floor, so I wanted to do it once. Yes, it will scratch if you drag something across it or use jackstands. When I use jackstands I place cardboard or a rubber pad underneath them. As for the garage door opener lifting the paint, apply a little vasoline to the door seal and you shouldn't have any problems.

www.expoycoat.com is what I used in Oct.,expensive...I don't know how it will hold up. I don't plan on dragging anything across it. Common sence tells me I will need something under jackstands. But it is the garage not a museum.

On a side note the dealership I just started working for has tiles. They look ceramic and it's 3yrs old and look pretty good. I may try that if the expoy coat doesn't last.

When I had my two car garage built (in '06), I had special fiberglass-based floor covering done and it's still looks good today. Here are two pictures:
The first is when the garage was being built (no counters, shelves, etc...) and the second how it looks today with both my "toys" inside...

Claude. :)

I did my garage with UCoat-it and it has stood up very well. I don't think it matters what brand you use if you don't prep it correctly. My garage was so bad, I rented a commercial concrete sander from Home Depot and sanded down about a 1/16th of an inch into clean concrete.

Cal,

Was that a small grinder you got form Home Depot or like a walk behind kinda one they use for floors? I would like to redo my garage floor but I would have to do what you did to prep the concrete, what dod the rental cost ya and how lond did it take you?

ummmm..what about small divots in the floor where parts or tools have been dropped or thrown ??:p

I rented the walk behind kind for half a day. I think it cost around $40. It worked real well but created quite a mess. When I finished, I used a pressure washer to spray all the concrete dust out of the garage into my driveway. My garage was really, really oil stained. No amount of cleaners or muratic acid was going to get through he stains I had.

I just shaved a little off the top since I didn't have any deep divot's.

Thanks Cal I will keep that in mind when I am ready to do it, I have industrial epoxy on it now and it hasn't held up well and would like to redo the while thing at some point.

I like my RaceDeck tiles but I would not buy the white again.
