Alright...I took my motor to the machine shop a while back. It got bored, cleaned, checked and everything but have no clue if it was line honed or anything. I got it back and got my new RJC girdle came in. After i went through the instructions it was obvious i couldnt put it on with the welding and extra machine work. I took it back to the local machine shop that is very well known in the area and told them i would like them to follow RJC's instuctions on installing it. They had it for about 3 days and i recieved a call yesterday stating RJC's girdle was the nicest girdle they had ever installed, everything went perfect and its right. I asked if they had line honed or anything and he told be no it wasnt needed. I dont have the instructions with me now its all at the shop but if i remember right the instructions say to line hone. So i guess what im trying to ask is...is the machine shop wrong and no matter what it needs to be line honed?

Thanks

I would call Jason Monday and talk to him, he's been down this road a lot of times before.

Taylor if they cant get it done right go pick it up and bring it somewhere that can do it for you. My friend says he is ready when you are to drive down and drop the engine off for the rebuild. Call me and let me know what the progress is.

thanks everyone for the help after i talk to RJC monday and then the machine shop i will post what happens...Ed i appreciate everything you've helped with and i will be talking to you soon

Thanks guys but since we are here talking about girdles and billet caps do you think a girdle alone would be fine around 750 hp?

with all the $$ spent already you are leaving a weak link skipping the billet caps that are cheap around $125 for both.

Hey, who sells them???? I am at this same stage with my motor.....I have the girdle, waiting on my block to arrive considering billet caps as well. Who sells them for $125. Also, my understanding is that the billet caps have to be line bored to remove the excess material, correct?

I have a hard time seeing the stock main caps break with a girdle holding them down. There is more of a chance of the billet caps being installed wrong than the stock caps breaking. Just my .02 cents.

i have heard of stock center caps breaking even with a girdle-i would use the billet caps at a minimum.

How often have you heard of that? Often enough to get my motor back change out the caps and take it back to the machine shop to get them to install the girdle again? Im really just trying to figure out if its worth it...i would have in the beginning without a doubt but now its a little late in the game

well with all the new parts i hope to easlily be looking at 10.50's....im not planning on pushing the motor hard, ive got a big turbo and i have been running high boost...im trying to get in the low to mid 10's on conservative boost

well keep it tuned on the safe side and since you have a steel crank that might save your ass as the stocker likes to flex. what do you have for rods?
