I recently ordered a 1/24 scale GMP Diecast Turbo T from an online Diecast vendor. When I picked up the item at the post office, I became ill! The car was shipped in the outer box that GMP uses. He did not put it in any other box or wrap it. He simply sent it in the box GMP issues with the car. The vendor stuck a Large address label on it. I mean large as in covering most of one side of the box. Then either the post office or the sender pasted priority mail stickers all over the box. Then if that was not enough, my post office not knowing any better used a large black marker to mark my name and PO Box on the box too. I tried to use a steam cleaner to get all of this off and some came off but a lot did not. There was no way to keep the labels from pulling off part of the cardboard with it. I own a detailing business and I am very familiar with removing auction tags, dealer logos, bumper stickers and such off of high dollar vehicles. Even with my expierience I could not save the box.
When I e mailed the vendor he did not seem concerned at all. Says he was at least glad that I received it ok. That he had been selling collectable diecasts for years and had sent many this way. His reply was that I was getting all worked up for nothing. Keep in mind my first approach to him was very courteous and just telling him that he might want to send more carefully. But once I received his responses back I about went through the roof. Am I being to picky about this? What do you think and what would your response have been? Keep in mind this is a GMP diecast, not a hot wheel!

What a douche bag that seller is. Ask for a full refund on the purchase and your return shipping. If you want id also ask for an inconveniece refund of $25 or more for the time you are wasting re-mailing the f ucker back. You should just put your label over his old one and send it back the way he sent it. Why dont you post his name so we can avoid him?

AGREED!!! They know better than to ship a diecast collectible like that.....As a serious diecast collector/seller myself, I can definetly vouch to the importance/value of the original packaging being in excellent condition in the diecast collectors world.. My advice is to contact the seller again immediately & arrange to have it sent back & replaced at no additional cost to you.

I would be very unhappy if that happened to me.

I once received a damaged package via UPS which had a Buick diecast collectible in it from Epitome. Although it was not Epitome's fault, Ted went out of his way simply to send me a new outer box.

If it ever becomes worth money a mint box will need to be with it.

Just like the guys above said send it back and tell him to try again on his expense with a new box! I have just about every Buick die cast out there and I'd be nuts if someone shipped in the box like that. Even if he just put that box in another box with no packing would be a start! But to do it the way he did no way. Yea it can be seen as picky and anal but many of us Buick guys are like that. Having a mint condition box is just another part of what collecting them is all about!

The nice part about the Internet is if he breaks your balls over this just post the vendors name and he can find business from some other group of people! One thing is for sure I'd never buy off him!

Usmusclecars!!!! Buyers Beware!

Thanks ALL for your support. I just wanted to see if others thought I was over reacting. I did get a good deal on the car but that is not the point at all! As you guys know the value is next to nothing to a collector without the original boxes in a presentable condition. The EvilBay user ID is USMUSCLECARS. I am trying to find the actual name of the company. His feedback rating is not too bad, but that doesn't repair the GMP box! My intention is to send him a copy of this thread at some point! Buyers Beware!

It depends if he advertised that you would be getting this "outer box" as part of your item or not. If he didn't mention the box as part of what you were paying for, then it's his right to put stickers all over it. But if this outer box was in the picture and was clearly part of the item that you paid for, then the box itself should have been packaged and protected.

i would be pissed as well got all mine with boxes and are mint thanks Epitome +1 for him but i would send it back to the jack ass

Also happened to me and I was P*ssed!!!

The same thing happened to me when I bought a GMP diecast (86 GN) from a guy in Canal Fulton, Ohio. This guy is only super picky when he is buying parts, not when he is selling them. I have never purchased anything from this guy since, but I have bought from Ted at Epitome with excellent service!!!

I don't have any spare boxes for any of the 1:24th scale cars or I would just send you one. It is pretty standard in the diecast collectible world that the box is part of the collectible itself. I have never heard of a diecast car being sent this way.
