That's really high numbers
Tom Robison has a set of ta heads that he ported himself and went 7s.
Not sure what they flowed though.
The ta head castings seems alot better and dont crack like the champions do when someone starts making the kind of power to utilize/benefit from flow numbers that both heads can flow.
For most they will never see cracking.

I still have those heads and they are currently on my new TA block build. Next time I have them off I need to have them flowed and see what they do. I bet they are not crazy numbers. I went 7.84 at 176mph at 3250.

I remember and on a really small tire if I'm correct.
I like the how thick the decks are and seems to be a major part of really being able to really push the cars over and over again without going to stage heads.
I would be willing to bet they dont flow too crazy either
Some of us have touched on this subject in this thread.
I personally have seen no evidence of port stalling a head
even on really fast cars.

36-38 psi is what I ran in those videos above. I took it to 42 but car really didn't pick up any. It went 174mph at Atco but that is a fast track to begin with.

I got the other motor home today from Manny Jr and good news is he has all the flow sheets and data Manny Sr collected and posted in the other thread he started talking about this stuff.


Unfortunately all the pics are gone along with all the flow data he posted BUT I now have it and will re-post it when I get it from him. He flowed the TA heads I have on the his bench and I believe he got the same numbers or close to the same I got on my machinist bench which was over 300 on the intake. He said he has the original flow sheet I gave him.

A little engine porn!! Both motors have production style heads and have been over 170 mph.

I didn’t set out to go fast or set any records on iron heads, it’s just what I had to work with at the time. Then as we got faster and faster, running 9.0’s for some time, I did make it a goal to get in the 8’s. Once I got it dialed in better 8.70’s/8.80’s were regular times. Unfortunately I had one of my cylinder heads start separating internally/core separation of the casting. We tried repairing it but the first time out it still flexed enough that it lost that head gasket at 1000 ft, but she still coasted to an 8.78, and the 60ft on that pass was about .05 off the pace because I left a little soft being the first run and not knowing how good the track was. Turned out to be the last pass on those heads. I think with a fresh set of irons set up the same way I could have gone 8.50’s/8.60’s, that last run was gonna be good. Unfortunately those heads were very seasoned, I ran them hard for 8-9 years.

This was almost exactly a year ago, so I parked my car and just watched my kid run his completely stock long block turbo T. I guess he had a mild used flat tappet cam but otherwise untouched heads and completely stock short block. I thought he had way too big a turbo (70 mm) but he got it to work pushing 43-44psi boost with one stock head gasket and one fel pro 1000 and re used stock head bolts that he had to put on it to fix it when he got it. He got that car to run 10.20/10.24 and 10.28 all at 129-130 mph. Then it broke a main cap and the block and the crank and a few rods, pushing said parts out the bottom LOL.

So we broke both cars 450 miles away in Oklahoma but still had a blast!

You definitely have taken running fast with stock stuff to a new level and I am impressed with your accomplishments,

I did a lot of testing in the late 90s on iron heads. I got a hold of a set of heads that came from a fella named Terry Ryan out on the left coast of Washington. They were ported by a guy named Dale Robertson and were an impressive set of heads. Terry did really well racing TSE and won in 1993 which back then was the top class that Red A raced with his GN. I got the heads off Terry in the late 90s and planned to run them on my TSS motor I was building. They had offset guides with 1.875 int/1.60 valves 1.55" diameter springs and custom mounted T&D shaft mount rockers. The port work was extensive and they flowed really well with 219 on int and 200 on exh. I recently sold them on a 109 motor I had in my T-type that went to another board member. I snapped a few pics of some of the custom work on them before I put the motor back together.

I didnt end up running them on my TSS car. I ended up with a set of NOS Stage 1 heads just the 8 bolt ones. I had Tom at Champion work them over and he did a fantastic job and I wish I had pics of the heads today. The heads flowed about the same as the 8445 castings I mentioned above BUT they did it with standard 1.77/1.50 valves. How Tom got those heads to flow almost 220 on intake through a tiny 1.77 valve is beyond me. I went with those heads instead as the smaller valve works better on a 3.8 bore and the castings on the S1 heads were a lot beefier. I sold that motor to John Martin who raced it in TSM for a number of years. I know he still has his car but not sure what happened to the motor and heads he may still have them they were pretty killer iron heads though.

OK on to GN1R vs TA

Well Mike I told you I had the flow sheet on your heads somewhere and I found it, second pic. These are your heads flowed against the GN1R heads I ran 174mph with! I ended up sticking with the GN1R heads I had for a couple of reasons but those heads you got from me on paper are actually a better head.

I dropped off the TA heads I have from DLS, the new GN1R raised runner head and a S2 head to all be flowed and compared on the same day. I do have the original flow sheet on the DLS TA heads and like I said it was the best production style head I ever tested, first pic.

We are flowing all three on the same bench so I expect the new numbers to be really close to these.

FYI I will be selling the Champion GN1R raised runner heads with oncenter intake rockers and VCs etc after the test. Unless of course they outperform the TAs which I dont believe they will lol. PM me if you are interested, I will post the flow numbers on the head which I expect to be in the 280-290 range on intake and same on exh as the GN1R heads I posted already.

I finally found mine.......

I have not had this engine to the track or on a dyno yet. It only has a thousand miles on it and i have it at Black Market Racing in Phoenix getting a few things squared away.

I've asked them to put it on the dyno for a couple of test pulls to get a baseline. That should happen next week.

Thanks for the info Chris, it's nice to see where they started from when I got them from you. At the time Dan at DLS was building my StageII motor and I had you ship the heads and rockers directly to him. Dan being a perfectionist said that casting was good the porting was ok but didn't like much else. So he put all new valves in it, re did the pushrod geometry, and also re ported them. They look absolutely fantastic. Never had them flowed. I will do that the next time I freshen it up.
