LOl - I got a shout out!

That's a tough trade - a GN with 20K for this car.
Sounds like a frat girl, where everyone had a turn at her.
But, they can all be put back together properly.
Just the ole - time n money.
I'm guessing your buddy did not overpay for this one.

Was that an impulse purchase? - because I know of at least half a dozen cars for sale that are relatively unmolested.
Such as that can be.

I picked up my WE4 this year for $9500 and couldn't be happier with the state of affairs and its performance.
I feel like Christmas came early for me.

Is it this car your buddy bought?

It was for sale
;-)
But I must warn you - if you click on the link, be sure to have any small children and pets put safely to bed.
And do not look directly at the screen. You will regret it.
But it's good comedy just the same.
;-)

I just threw up in my mouth. That has to be a felony in most states.

And it's not even an 86, more like an 81 - 83. Runs excellent as long as the jumper cables are connected. It's not even a good parts car, barf.

Wire nuts work okay on my cars.
They outlast the body of the car on a daily driver.
Not sure about speaker wire though.

That thing must be fast, it has chrome valve covers!;)

What ever
That's what I love about this forum,
If you don't do everything better than it was from the factory, you're a "hack",
If you do it better than the factory, you've "molested" it,
If yours is not exactly like I made mine, you don't know what your doing,
If yours IS exactly like mine, you've copied me and have no originality!
Gotta love it!o_O

nobody can ever agree how to correctly join two wires in a car.....

solder and tape, crimp and heatshink, solder and heat shink, twist and heat shink, etc. etc.......each way has its merits and disadvantages.....the only safe way, is to not have a joint at all.

but its funny how someone will look at a wirenut and immediately curse out the person who used it.

Good for you for taking on this project to straighten it out. You will probly find many more issues along the way, everyone operates at different skill/pride levels and unfortunetly the next owner down the road gets the prize. Now I know a fella who has a clean low miles G/N for sale, too bad I cant recomend it to anyone becauese of the bad mouse chewed wired damage I had to fix and the fact that the rear clip had to be replaced due to a spinout on drag radials in the rain. The car presnents itself pretty well butt I know the whole history of it and if anyone thinks there looking at it PM me for the lowdown. This is a t-top car, factory radio delete, no rear window defrost akron-area ohio Thanks and good luck too you

I would rather see wire nuts then twisted wires wrapped in black tape. :p At least it's a solid junction.

Surej knows I like to solder and re insulate but inside the car crimp/butt connectors work just fine providing the proper crimping tool is used.

i agree, but there was a post somewhere on yellowbullet about how a sealed crimped connection is more corrosion and vibration proof in an automotive environment

i would think that a wirenut is just as good as a bell crimp connector but if im not mistaken, wire nuts are for solid wire

Wire nuts work with solid or stranded and are especially good with attaching stranded to solid wire such as that cheesy stock fuel pump solid wiring out back in the trunk, to trigger a home made hot wire relay.

Most of the time soldering works just fine if you have the extra time.

I would never ever us a wire nut in an outdoor environment. It is just asking for corrosion and poor contact. I should have taken a picture of all the corrosion in the wire nuts.

,Dan

You have any outdoor floodlights wiring etc.?
What do you think is holdind all those high current connections togrther?
Yup wirenuts in a steel or aluminum or plastic leaky box.

I would never trust wire nuts in an environment that's subject to vibration...like cars. There's a reason why you won't ever see them used in aircraft.

Never seen a ceiling fan vibrate but that's usually only 120 volts or so.....

Oh CHRIST why did I click that link:eek:
How did that "1986 Grand National" end up with a pre-84 header panel and tail-lights? Who-ever built that POS REGAL should be shot.
