The .38 Special is what I carry during the daylight hours....light, and well balanced...with +p .38 special loads, hollow points.....at night and in dangerous areas, I carry "Big Barky" my .44 Magnum S & M with Crimson Trace Laser Sights, with .44 240 grain and hollowed out bullets (by me). That's probably overkill.
The .38 special is great for ladies.....my wife didn't mind firing it at our firearms training lessons, but she doesn't like guns, so....I loved firing it.....very, very nice dependable revolver.
The best home weapon, in my opinion only, is the Mossburg Cruiser 500 shotgun.....awesome, powerful, scary and makes the scariest sound as you rack in a round.......the short handle does have a tendency to hurt your hand but, it's better to be hurt than to be dead.
