Other than those minor quibbles, I just don't see how that scene could have been made better.. Unless there had been bacon involved somehow...

nothing wrong with a 38 spl. was used for years in the police departments. Not as powerfull as the 357 mag', but the 38 has a recoil that most femails can handle. Thats the first gun in my home that i will grab. love my 38 K frame S&W.

The .38 Special is what I carry during the daylight hours....light, and well balanced...with +p .38 special loads, hollow points.....at night and in dangerous areas, I carry "Big Barky" my .44 Magnum S & M with Crimson Trace Laser Sights, with .44 240 grain and hollowed out bullets (by me). That's probably overkill.

The .38 special is great for ladies.....my wife didn't mind firing it at our firearms training lessons, but she doesn't like guns, so....I loved firing it.....very, very nice dependable revolver.

The best home weapon, in my opinion only, is the Mossburg Cruiser 500 shotgun.....awesome, powerful, scary and makes the scariest sound as you rack in a round.......the short handle does have a tendency to hurt your hand but, it's better to be hurt than to be dead.

My wife has a kahr 380. She has tiny hands and shoots it in pretty decent groups from 10-15 feet. I have a desert eagle 44mag. Love going to the range and letting off eight rounds rapidly. Everyone stops and looks.

I have a Ruger LCP 380 (pocket gun) with crimson trace for a CCW. I think it will get the job done in a self defense situation.

I would go with the Ruger SP101 .357 revolver. Heavy enough that shooting .38 spl is very tame (like shooting .22 LR) and can easily handle the added recoil of the .357 Magnum if you want to step it up. If you get the snub nose version it is also perfect for CC as well as home protection.

Get her a damn shotgun. Not a lot of training and if you use the right ammo it will spread the shot out enough to take out a wall. A 20 guage with a cylinder choke will give more than enough coverage for a large room and the sound of a pump loading will make the intruder have to clean out his/her shorts out for a week.

what he said...to heck with the pistol. load it with #3 buck and follow with a slug and so on. Just make sue it has the short barrel.

One other thing I will say (a little off subject) put a master light switch in your bedroom by the door that will turn the lights on in you main room or rooms in your house. If you have an intruder you can turn the lights on him while you are in the dark….then pop his A@#. You can also determine if it is someone you rather not shoot…..It might be a little trouble to install but it makes a big difference especially if your wife is home alone.

Yeah, the master switch makes sense......hate to have my wife shoot my secret girlfriend who snuck in at the wrong time.......this way, my wife can hold her fire and I can "quietly" escort her out while my wife keeps the gun trained on me...

I've got a Springfield XD subcompact; fantastic 9mm and easy to use. a sub or compact model would be a nice self defense handgun for her; they also make that special ammo (name escapes me) that won't go blasting through every wall in the house.

You're refering to frangable ammo. It's a bit pricey to me but it's very effective if you hit your mark. Personally, in a CQB situation I'd still prefer a shotgun.

This kinda went off in a few different directions.
For ultimate home protection nothing beats a shotgun. It's not possible to accidently shoot yourself with it. Imagine your wife, alone...under the stress of an intruder in her home, with little to no experience with weapons of any kind. Should she be holding a 2 1/2" barrel semi-auto .45 cal with one chambered?? You know she's holding it with alligator arms, as tight to her chest as possible, cause she's petrified. No way mister...a shotgun with adjustable stock, set for her when you're out of town, or even a youth size semi-auto 410 would be better than ANY handgun. Now I own handguns, nothing wrong with them. For concealed carry, I have a S & W model 642, hammerless 38 special +p with crimson trace. A model 686 .357 (S & W's most accurate out of the box handgun). And a model 29 .44 mag in 4". But if someone breaks in my house, I wouldn't even think about grabbing anything but the shotgun. When I'm home it's loaded with seven 000 buck rounds (8 32 caliber pellets) that would be very messy, but super effective. When I'm out, the stock is set for her and loaded with #7 or #8 shot. It's an AR style stock with integrated pistol grip, forestock handle and a 200 lumens push button flashlight. I do not have children living at home anymore. That's also something that must be considered.

I just set a lady up with a Remington 870 tactical with a Knoxx specops stock in 20 gauge, 7rds! Load it with personal defense buckshot and she is good to go

Sawed off shotgun, just the sound of cocking the gun will deter most intruders.
