SGRIM, your so true about that. The more they kill them the rare they will be. It's just very sad to me to see one done like that. Just get a plan old regal for that. He still has a nice car.

Nice looking package Dave! One of the nicest out there... Congrats on the coverage, be sure to mention the site next time:D

Don't bag on our V6's though... They are the orignial heart of the design...

Guys, don't worry or get but so upset.... For every GN or TR that is dismantled just makes the value of yours go up... I got a whole garage full of them, plenty of V6's left:D

I suggest buying certain parts and cars... One day the survivors will be truley rare....

Thanks Shane!
I never talked to the author of the article, he pulled everything from my thread in the LSX section. You never know who is lurking on TB.Com!

Wow, that is cool! Thanks for sharing the info! Your threads have kept the LSX section busy, I appreciate it!

You guys get more upset over people swapping engines than the people that part them out on a daily basis. I don't get it.

The car is driving the streets stomping everthing in its path, this does nothing but add to the nasty reputation the GN already has! 13 sec GN's are feared around here because of the damage we've done over the years.

I find it hard to believe in this the USA where we are free to do pretty much as we please there is such an uproar over what another chooses to do to/with their vehicle. I personally drive mine. I bought it to drive and do every chance I get. Unfortunately this results in me breaking it. Trans took a dump again. Will I go to a 4l80e? build another 700r4? go with the 2004r I have stashed?

They are just cars, just like when the donk thing gets posted. Someone likes it and is doing it. Why? It is their car. Would I do that to mine? Not a chance, but I do appreciate the work someone else put in to get theirs rolling.

Bottom line, I don't get why others get so worked up over what someone does to their own stuff. Get a shovel and dig the sand out. Much more comfortable when you are working on your own stuff.

Oh, and congratulation on your coverage. Nice to have your hard work recognized!

My .02 cents here is this. I owned a foxbody mustang for many years. I ended up changing the motor, adding a turbo, and ended up going 9.89 at 141 mph in the quarter. It just got too expensive and i sold it. I bought my GN soon after. I dont have plans on going crazy with it because i enjoy the car too much to make it another race car. I was ok with chopping up the mustang because i did not see it as a collector car. I believe the GN is and will be a collector car. I always wanted one since the first day i saw it on the streets. I always liked the sedan look,ie: cutlass supreme, monte carlo..etc. And imagine, the look I like with a turbo and in black! Thats the car for me and now I have it. I love speed and will eventually do some tasteful mods to it just to increase the hp just a bit but nothing crazy like my mustang. My point is, i would never see myself swapping out the v6 for anything else only because its what gave this car its history/nostalgia. To me, its like taking the soul out of the car just for the name of power and speed. I know the desire to go fast, believe me, i love it myself and can appreciate the swap that was done here. I don't know if i would have done it to a GN but thats just me. On the other hand, he is representing our cars by hauling ass in one. I just hope people that come across this car dont take away from what the GN is because it now has a v8 in it. I put myself in someone's shoes, at a car show or a drag racing event and i walk by a GN with its hood open. I would expect to see an inpressive, heavily tricked out v6 with all the bells and whistles, only to see a v8 swap and say to myself: its like any other v8 out here hauling ass. I am not taking away from the time, money, sweat that goes into making this car what it is today. I have been there, just in a different chassis. I am just saying that it kind of takes away from what the soul of the car is. If i would ever have disposable money again and i decided to build a race car with a gbody chassis, I would buy a regular regal, clone it as a GN and go crazy with it. But this is just me. IMHO. Kudos for the recognition by the way!

People change. I always said I would never...and I did. Just sayin'

The value of the car as a collectors item was probably shot when the cage went in, that's not so easy to undo. Dave didn't have to seriously modify the car to put the v8 in it. I'm sure it would be just as easy to put a v6 back in if he wanted to.

I'm giving the v6 one very expensive shot in mine. If It dies, I'm going straight to a v8.

Rick that published the article is a really nice guy.
He has had a GN, CTS and a 4 gen F-Body.
He does check our board out for information.
Let's try not to in fight, people are checking if we a still going fast with class...

BTW Congrats on the press Dave.
I hope we can get a couple more members on there soon!

I used to cringe at motor swaps, but now I get it. Now I cringe more at full race cars that are caged, missing interior, no AC, no heater, etc. If you are building a race car, then swapping the motor is not that big of a deal IMO. The older these cars get, the cooler I think it is to see a nice clean GN that has everything working and still runs like a respectible car (mid 11's - low 12's). To each his own though. If you have a car that you are attached to and are at the end of your rope with the powerplant, doing a motor swap makes sense.

So I'm really interested in your choice in the 4.8. I've heard that motor are pretty bullet proof right out of the box due to sharing components with its bigger brothers. What has been done to the motor? I'm sure it has a cam and ported heads, but what about the shortblock?

Most of the cars getting V8 swaps were already more of a race car to start with and would be hard to put back to factory condition regardless. I wouldn't do it to my 26,000 mile GN which is why I sold it and bought a Regal body. The Regal is thebest looking G body IMO so there's a good reason people want to stick with it. I look at the turbo V8 swap as progress. It's taking what we all learned from the V6 and applying it to a bigger, stronger engine. The GN started this turbo craze we see everywhere now. They coupled intercooling and EFI together in something that changed turbo charging forever. I get a laugh out of our local racers because they know..........if the car was fast with a V6 and a turbo, it's in a whole new league with extra ci.

Not an LS engine, but check the V8 section. Stephan just made 1500rwhp at 13psi with a V8 in a Regal body. :D
