Anyone who is running this turbo over 24 psi...what cam profile are you running and what lobe center? I have a gt-71 compressor wheel turbonetics 4"inlet 2.5" outlet cover. Gt-q turbine pte .63 housing. It will not make more than 24 psi??? I have been told it may be the cam i am running. 218-469 110 lc

Walt ,
Im not familiar with this turbo,Is thsi similar to a PTE 71?
I cant see why you cant run any more than 24 psi? I mean , thats not a gigantic cam?many run bigger than that and dont have a boost problem. U sure there arent any other problems?

What size DP are you running. I wonder if it's a 3", might not be enough for a Q-trim. I have the same problem with my set up, 24# was all she'd go. I was gonna do a 3 1/2" system.

Sounds like a wastegate problem. I ran a 3in into the 10 teens and could run 30 psi easy on the LT70gtq.

Yes louie it is the same compressor wheel in a tsm legal cover. I run a 3.5 thdp with a 3.5 single shot. There is no gain in boost with the dump open or closed.

71GTQ Turbo

Hey Walt,
I have it on my car and have ran 30-33 pounds of boost thru it the build up is in my sig. But need to seriously need to upgrade fuel delivery.

Steve Pitts:)

If you do not have any exhaust manifold leaks and your wastegate is operating properly, you might want to do a pressure check of the intake system. Disconnect the pipe coming off the turbo and install a fitting (my was made from some Home Depot pvc with an adaptor to accept an air hose connector) and attach a constant air supply of 20-30 psi (I used a leak down tester). You will also have to open the throttle plate and loosen the rocker arms to close the valves, then with a wash bottle and some soapy water check for leaks. I have done this test on my car as well as several other GN's and it has never failed to amaze me the number of leaks that are found. One other possibilty is to check the condition of your valve springs and the seat pressure.
Good Luck,
Jeff

Walt i don't think the cam is your problem even though the bigger cam the harder it is to make boost. I have run the 218 comp and ran 10.0s@134 with a fuel curve problem .I only ran a t-66 turbo then but i could only get 28 lbs of boost and after 26 it would not go faster. I would like to try that 71 mm turbo but don't want to buy the whole turbo for just a compressor upgrade.

Hey Walt, you can't run the stock air box with that turbo, don't care what the guy at Jegs told you........;)

Walt - don't listen to Keith or Steve, they're trouble makers.

First, check to see if your hidden nitrous system is leaking. It could be that those extra 12 nozzles are blocking the airflow. If it isn't that, check to see if your nitromethane injection isn't overly rich. That could really put the flame out

And lastly, no, your cam isn't the problem I'd say.

hey walt,

have you tried adjusting the wastegate rod?

Make it shorter for more boost.

It woulnd think its the cam or DP, My 72 BB qtrim, would make over 30#s no problem,3"downpipe and a 214-210 cam.

Down pipe

Hey Walt,
I'll trade you a stock downpipe with stock unported elbow for that sewer pipe you have. J/K:D
