ok besides the obvious what else are the differences between these two trans ams?

the reason I ask is that recently I totalled my GN

the engine tranny rear etc are all working and I was thinking to transplanting them into a GTA
but I wanted to know the differences they had so I could change them right away, I would like all the benefits that the TTA has if I am doing this, meaning the braking and handling etc.

thanks alot guys

Carl

PS does anyone know if a normal GTA came with the leather interior?

i dont think the g body rear fits the t/a...they came with the "austrailian" 9 bolt rear. these arent that common under f-bodies as far as i know but i would love to hear from some of the tta gurus on the particulars of this swap

GTA's and even TTA's could come with cloth interior, leather was an option along with T tops. Most likely your drivers side bolster on a leather interior is going to be blown out. I'd actually prefer a cloth car.

Also, the GTA's came with the 9 bolt rear end, most of them have the 3.27 rear, some 3.45.

As for the braking, a GTA is not going to have the front 12" brakes and calipers that the TTA does. They have the 1LE braking system, its good, but its nothing fabulous. ILE brakes are hard to find, or you could just upgrade to a nice baer system for a little more then huting down all the parts needed for a 1LE swap.

you'll have to upgrade the fuel pump for the 3.8, do u have a walbro in your GN? Its not too hard to swap, just takes a little time.

I doubt you will be able to find a TTA dash, i think u could use the GTA dash and just add a boost gauge.

They make poly engine mounts now, so the engine and tranny should bolt right in. I think u might need a different driveshaft tho.

If you are trying to "duplicate" a TTA, it might get pricey to find parts like the original dash, high back seats, 1LE brakes, emblems..

but there are a few people who have completed the GTA- turbo GTA swap.

Check out www.89tta.com for more info on the TTA.

Good luck!

Buy this and put your drivetrain in it.

I second that. Do something original. There's enough Turbo V6 Regals and Firebirds already.

The 2+2 was really shafted when it came to the drivetrain. Pontiac didn't want to pay the $$$ to get the MCSS drivetrain (or anything else) certified in the 2+2.

any idea how easy it would be to put my rear, tranny and engine into that car?

what about the computers and such?

is that car lighter(it must be cause mines a boat)? whats it weigh

thanks

Carl

The GTA - GN engine swap is NOT easy. Here's some issues you'll run into:

Headers
TTA specific downpipe
A/C removal (unless you use TTA heads and change pistons)
Driveshaft
Motor mounts (though poly's are available)
Crossmember
High back seats
Emblems
Turbo dash - not available
1LE brakes/calipers
Exhaust tips - not available
Baffled gas tank
Decals (PAS underhood and optional door and windshield)
Intercooler scoop - not available
TTA specific air cannister/hose - not available
TTA radiator hoses - not available anywhere
