What is the difference between a GTQ, HPQ, and a S trim? I assume that a HPQ is an updated GTQ. Whats up with the S trim?

Not correct.

S trim is only available in 4 bolt and is capable of supporting 150hp more.
No. Only on a Precision GTS unit. The GTS is a clipped version of the 42-76 exhaust wheel i believe. Turbonetics "S" is the same as Precisions GTQ. Im sure Patrick will chime in and clear this up. S and GTS arent the same.

Not true,Turbonetics makes a 3 bolt S trim.But i think its a GTQ wheel

It is. Ive compared them side by side. Same blade count and same angle. I have a S trim 66.

Both companys buy them from Garrett im pretty sure.
Turbonetics buys Precision ex housings for their S wheel turbos

s trim

The s trim wheel seems to have the same pitch as the gtq, the difference is the taller tip height and width of the exducer, you can not see the difference looking at the wheel installed in a housing. A precision housing has to be machined to fit the new tubonetics s trim wheel.

Even if there is any difference between the S or gtq, bison's avatar is gay!:D

When you see the guy in the avatar face to face you can call him gay and see if you feel as safe as you are your behind your computer:rolleyes: .

Very "Grey Area" Questions guys.....

My guess is the GTS is on the left as well.

To my knowledge, PTE never made a .68 A/R T4 Tangential housing for the GTS turbine wheel. Only .81 and .96.

Here's the deal.
When you're talking about Precisions' GTS wheel vs their GTQ wheel, they both started life as a GT42 turbine wheel. They were machined to work with the standard T4 frame bearing housing and cut down in order to fit inside the corresponding PTE T4 Tangential style turbine housings. (.81 & .96) The GTS wheel would not fit inside of a THB style Buick 3-bolt housing, due to is physical dimensions not fitting inside the housing. So it was never offered for the Buicks. GTS turbine wheel equipped turbos were mainly spec'd for medium V8 applications. (302-400 CI range) However, some of the Buick heavy hitters, who were already running T4 setups, ran the GTS turbine wheel turbos on their Buicks. Some with good results. I would never recommend a GTS T4 .81 on any 235 CI engine. Even with dual ball bearing, you would need a very high stall converter that's not very street friendly.

Unless they have made a recent change, I believe the Turbonetics S trim turbine wheel is different than the old PTE GTS turbine wheel. I could be wrong on this as I haven't seen them side by side to really be able to compare.

Also, questions such as these, are generally proprietary information that is not normally shared with the general public, and as such, considered confidential information/trade secrets. With Precision changing the turbine wheels to their new HPQ series, I'm sure this is not that big of a deal anymore. The GTQ/GTS wheels origination, has been common knowledge in the Import community for years. Their new HPQ wheel is proprietary knowledge, it's origins have not been made public and I'm sure won't be for awhile. Remember, trade secrets. I seriously doubt you would be able to call PTE and get an answer on who makes their HPQ wheel.

I would advise proceeding with caution.

Patrick
