Took the car today to Otto's dyno to get things dailed in. First let me say that this was worth the trip and cost to do this. We worked through a bunch of small issues that would have been a nightmare at the track. Most important to me is that I was able to take the car home is good running condition witout any blow-ups.
After progressively stepping up the boost, we started to find that the 11 year old Aeromotive pump with 3000+ street miles couldn't handle the fuel demand. We found this because we had a pressure transducer tapped in for data logging. Another expense worth doing. We were also data logging exhaust back pressure, Hot boost pressure before the intercooler, and exhaust EGT's. Could not get the turbo speed sensor to work for this dyno session.
So, with the week fuel pump, we were only able to bring it up to 26 pounds boost and get about 840 hp out of it. So far, I'm very happy with the results and look forward to bringing it back after replacing the pump and a few other fixes. My final goal is to get 1000 HP and hope to get there at or below 35 pounds boost. If Otto wants to chime in then he can do so but I think this is achievable.
Keep in mind that this is still a mostly street driven car and not a max-effort class racing car. When I put this together, durability was my priority over max power. Valve spring, cam and turbo selection were made based on these goals.
Most of the basic combo didn't change much from what I been running over the last 10 years.
272 stage 2 with stage 2 heads(Same heads with more spring)
Solid roller cam(same as old combo)
Y2K 88 turbo(New to this combo)
Sheet metal intake(New to this combo)
V1 intercooler(New to this combo)
TH400 trans.
