Man, I know what its like. The last one I had sent me driving to the ER. I spent a good 30 minutes in the ER before they even gave me anything for the pain. They ended up running a series of x-rays and other tests, but apparently I passed it between tests. They sent me home with a supply of good pain killers, and I havent had one since.
The biggest thing is to find out what they are made of. That way you can control your diet to prevent them. One of the things I hear works really well, and seems to for me, is drinking a lot of cranberry and/or orange juice. Also, stay hydrated. Stones form from a combination of the PH levels, and lack of fluids. I drink a lot less soda, and cut back my coffee and tea, and that seems to have done it for me. I have a family history of them (mom, dad, one sister all have them) so thats a a big strike against me already. But watch your diet, stay hydrated, and keep those pain killers close at hand.
Hope you feel better. I wouldnt wish the pain on anyone. Some women that have had both kidney stones and given birth, have said that the stones were worse pain.
