So I'm watching the Twins getting beat by the Yankees for the second straight game. If you saw the previous game you know the Yankees just wore the Twins out in 12 innings - same old story - more money - better players. How many times have we witnessed the Yankees do this to the opposition?
And I'm thinking how unfair it is that the Yankees can spend I suppose $200 MM + on players' salaries, whereas the Twins spend I suppose less than half of that.
Then I'm thinking about the players. How everybody wants to be a Yankee for the payday, and even if they don't, or can't make the cut, they still want the Yankees to drive up the salaries for every player in baseball, from A-Rod to the most marginal reliever on the ****tiest team in the league.
Bottom line - screw competitiveness - the players will never accept a salary cap because they know it's not in their best interests. Money is all that matters, without exception, to every last one of them. In other words, losing is OK.
Then I started to see the Yankees, the Evil Empire, as analogous to the bad guys in, for example, the WWE. You know, you need as many bad guys as good guys, to stir folks' interest.
Then, I shut off the TV. I finally have come to the realization that it's all about the money, and nothing else. The more the Yankees win, the more they're hated, the more they drive salaries for everybody in baseball, the more tickets they sell for being the bad guys. Baseball is nothing more than Wrestling. Don't kid yourself, the other owners, the other players, right down to the 3rd string infielder who makes $3MM a year, they all love the Yankees.
