I am upgrading my factory downpipe with a 3inch stainless one from Kirban. It looks very nice being stainless, but I want to lower my underhood temps. I bought a roll of 1 inch wide header wrap. I know this will keep the heat in the pipe, but I am concerned of overheating the pipe. I am wondering if it might crack? If anyone has their downpipe heat wrapped, let me know. Is this a good idea?

Did it a year or 2 ago. No problems so far.

Just keep an eye on the rap. That stuff loves to collect oil and other flammable liquids that drip off the motor, which could ignite. Once the rap gets contaminated replace it or you will really see under hood temps increase. ;)

did mine 3 years ago had no problems and checked it when i did my head gasket no corrosion.also helps protect the passenger side bushings.

I did mine when I put the THDP on about 6 years ago and have recently rewrapped it...definitely keeps temps down, in fact you can grab the pipe after going down the strip without getting burnt. Make sure no oil will drip on it as mentioned...the oil that drips off my valvecovers on both sides drips down on the crossover and is clear of the DP but I have KB headers so a different setup may drip differently :)
I found some wrap at Jegs that was black and it looks much nicer in the engine compartment than the white/brown stuff.

How much wrap do you need?

How much wrap do you need to buy to completely wrap a THDP?
TIA! :)

i bought a whole roll and maybe used a third of it. but i cannot remeber how many feet it was.
