HI , I bought a block from a guy located near Toronto, Canada (Mississauga). The sale included shipping to me. Now the problem is that supposedly I need a broker to get it into the US. I quickly checked on this and it seems I need to pay a hefty sum plus put up all my personel info and first born son to set up an account!! Anyone on here a broker or use a broker or maybe can do something to help me out here?? Thanks Mike:rolleyes:

I have some info that may help

At the Nationals, Cal was talking to someone about the problems with shipping stuff to Canada and back. He may have some information. I would e-mail him.

Usually, UPS can act as a broker and take care of all the paperwork for you for a reasonable fee. That's what I usually do when I buy something that is located un the U.S. and never had a problem.

Claude I thought UPS hit ya with all sorts of crazy fee's??? I only ship USPS to Canada. UPS is a pain to ship up there with their paperwork.

Its a stage 2 block so it weighs about 150# plus the skid straps or whatever is probably looking at 175#. Does UPS ship that kind of weight?? Maybe FedEx freight might?? Mike:confused:

Grumpy, it's not as bad as someone might tink...They do have fees, but considering all the headaches of filling all kinds of forms it saves you from doing, I still think it's reasonable...

Mike, yes I'm quite sure that they will ship a block...I've shipped 4 wheels complete with tires all the way to Las Vegas and there was no problem at all. About the block, normally it's the seller's job to properly pack it and ship it to you. If shipping was not included in your purchase, you'll probably have to reimburse him for that, but it's usually how it's done.
As for using FedEx, I've never dealt with them, but I'd expect them to offer a similar service as UPS does.

hope this helps,

Claude.

UPS are the worst by far.....
Use them and expect highest possible fee's and your block to arrive in pieces and even if fully insured they will automatically say "it was not packed properly" even after their tow motor dropped it off the dock and you will get nothing.

NO, NOT AT ALL. I've been dealing with UPS for years now, and only once there was an issue which they promptly resolved at their expense. Excellent service!

Claude.

Why not drive over and get it yourself? or locate a member here on board that is close to fetch it & haul it back

Thats why I posted it here. I need to make something happen soon!! I bought this in late Feburary so something needs to get resolved pretty soon or I lose all my rights thur Paypal!! He wants me to get a broker to make it easy for him , but that looks to be expensive for me , and Im looking for options or help to get it at least into the US without the need to set up a broker account with somebody. I dont want to lose the block or my money so Im getting a bit desperate. Mike:rolleyes:

This may sound stupid but try services or gigs on craiglist in a city that is close to Toronto.. You might be able to find some trucker that crosses over every few days & can toss it in with his load. Its a longshot but it might help you.

I think Buffalo or Detroit Craiglist are the close to Toronto. I dont have my MAP hat on

I may be able to help ya out i have a friend that lives in canada that brings stuff across all the time i bought aq car fron him once ... He drove it over all canada legal and i gave him a ride home...The only problem i see is that hes in windsor like 4 hours from where your block is....I occasionally get runs to toronto in my cargo van and i have a fast border cross card but they are few and far between....

I perfer to deal with someone on this board , I would feel safer about it anyway. Mike

Mike, if you fine someone to bring it over into Detroit you can have it dropped at my office and we can work it out from there
Mike

I am located in Toronto. If he could bring the block to my work place I can band it on a skid and send it to you. We have a broker that handles our shipments to the States for print work we do. Not sure what it would cost but if you are interested, let me know.

Thanks for the offers!! Mike this sounds like a real good possibility to me. Send me your info and I will pass it along to the seller and we will see what happens. Thanks Mike:cool:
