Alright gentlemen, I've got a turbo here that I pulled off my car believing it was a precision TE60... But I'm not so sure anymore. It's got the # 34 etched into it on the compressor outlet, the compressor housing is NOT polished, but it is a .60 Garret housing. This is a 3 bolt turbo with a .82 exhaust housing...Let me know what I'm supposed to measure to find out what this thing really is...

Thanks for your help!

I see you have gotten no response on here, but did you find out yet how to tell what you got ? I need the same info.

No Vern- I have not had any luck! I still would like to know, but I'm thinking of giving Precision a call, I'm sure they will be helpful- I will post my findings if any-

Anyone can scratch anything on the compressor or the turbine. To really see what you have you need to take the compressor housing off and measure the compressor wheel. That will definitely tell you what you have.

-The turbo is apart, but do I simply measure the outermost diameter of the compressor wheel? -Cause if I go by the side of the wheel closest to the thrust bearings, this this would be over 70MM (Approx. 3") ?

I know i need to measure the wheel, but what part of it?

Thanks-

TURBOCLIFF, any problems taking the comp. housing off ? by Compressor you do mean the MAF inlet side right ? any gaskets, or snap rings to worry about ? I guess I'm going to have to do the same, for my peace of mind. thanks
Vern

well, my turbo if off the motor, but I have removed the actual compressor housing. (The cast aluminum shell covering the compressor wheel, on the "cold" side of the turbo). Your wastegate acutator should be bolted to this if you have a stock style internal wastegate. It should be 6 bolts to remove (the same ones you would loosen to re-clock the turbo)

sounds like a TE34 with a .82 turbine housing is the housing a Garrett or PTE?

It's a garret? -If I measure the outside edge of the compressor wheel, it's about 2 1/4", which would be about 58MM? Does this help or confuse things?

Thanks-
Cliff

Measure the smallest diameter wheel and the largest diameter part of the wheel.

You need to get pretty precise, because some of the wheels are close in size.

That way we can atleast tell you what compressor you have.

To the best of my ability I have measured the outside diameter of the largest part of the wheel as 3" even, and the smallest diameter of the wheel as 2-3/16". I hope this helps-
