Help!! I had the transmission built by a reputable turbo buick shop last may. It has shifted great until now....I was coming from a stop, i hit 1-2-3, then it started going whacky... I was doing about 30...I pulled over to the nearest lot to look for damage, nothing, no fluid, broken cables etc, I put it in all gears and nothing....what could have possible broken???????

Bill

Broken input shaft....

or pump rotor. Check to see if you have line pressure.

I can think of three things off the bat that would cause no pull.
  • Broken Forward Clutch Shaft
  • Broken Pump Assembly
  • Broken Turbine Spline in the Converter
To narrow the list slightly, observe your transmission fluid level with the engine off & compare that to the level when the engine is running. If the pump is still functioning, you'll see the fluid level drop. If the level does drop, then you've got a mechanical malfunction with the Forward Shaft or Turbine Spline.

pull acooler line with the engine running and see if oil is flowing .if not you have a broken punp .if yes checck convertor turbine input shaft o/d carrier ,fwd drum ,disconnected manual valve www.ckperformance.com

I just read the above, And i hate to barge in on someone else's post But My tranny just quit tonight. I was at the top of first at about 15psi and when it was supposed to go to 2nd it went to like Nuetral, It coasted to a stop and has nothing? No reverse or forward. I checked the fluid it shows about halfway between normal and low. Now if I pull the tranny coolant line and crank it. and nothing comes out its a Pump? Right. And if it pumps its the Forward Clutch shaft or spline in converter? I assume all require pulling it and a full disassembly?
Thanks for the help.

No fluid pumping out is the pump, if it is pumping then some other mechanical break. All requre pulling the trans, pump is easiest as it requires only pulling the front off. All else requires disassembly.

GNZ

Scottie-you aren't supposed to break it before the 23rd!:D

Scottie is 240GNZ Im 280GNZ. Besides i know Scottie would know the answer to this ?. I had planned on transplanting a GN drivetrain in my Z like Scottie. BUT, i made the mistake of buying a running GN to use for parts. I fell in love with the room the ride and the GN style. Now I have Two GN's and one Z(still a V8).
Ok, I pulled the tranny coolant line and cranked car. It pumps like all getout??? The fluid has more of a pearl look with metal Than just flakes. So Next ? Where around the Dallas Texas area is a reputable 200R4 transmission shop?
Thanks for your Help.
