help with TE44

ok guys dumb question here(like they're ever intelligent)

anyways I was wondering if I buy a TE44, can I just bolt it in place of the stock turbo or is more needed?

I have an adjustable wastegate and plan on getting a BSC Controller from Ramchargers
do I need anything else for this to work or is it a direct bolt on?

not sure if it helps but I have a terry houston 3 inch downpipe and test/dump pipe as well

the wastegate will need to be welded to the turbo.... or just get a longer bolt and a few larger washers-

the turbo is about 1 inch shorter from MAF TO TURBO, so if you have a hardpipe, you will need to massage it to work

The turbo is just a bolt on, nothing special. BUT you will need to get a different wastegate actuator because the mounting hardware is different, since the 44's housing is larger than stock.

And surely tell the guy you buy the turbo from that you intend to use a THDP - it matters...

uhhhh yeah dave- weld the wastegate to the bracket that surrounds the compressor housing-

the distance of the stock wastegate bracket holes are different from the heavy duty ones-

that is why i suggested using a longer bolt and some larger washers to hold it into place-

it misses by about 1/2 of an inch-

if you want a direct bolt on turbo go for a TA series turbo

the 49 is virtually identical to the 44. I seesawed between the two (44 and 49) and went with the 49 cause it required less modification (wastegate actuator, and intake pipe like mentioned above)

Otherwise plan on getting a THDP to really compliment that 44.

That's what I did with mine and it works just fine. I will get the bracket welded to the Wastegate someday though......

Yes, it is a direct bolt-on.

i did the washer trick so that i could sell the turbo without the wastegate in the future,..

worked great, and i didnt have to WELD it, just used my head and got it done in less than one hour-

welding is permenant!

I had switched over the 44 from the stock turbo, I never noticed a 1" difference .

How's about a TA-49?
