Hey Ive had my 87 gn for almost 2 years now and I basically want to know what things I can do to it for better performance/handling for cheap. Ive already needed to rebuild the trans, brakes, and starter. My sound system, interior lights, car lighter and rear defroster wont work anymore so im guessing i need to re wire the entire thing? Also what are things i should absolutely be able to do myself? This was my first car and im still learning about cars but i dont want to be that guy who drives a car he knows nothing about

Cheap.....LOL

Stereo....move that to last on the list.

Check fuses, circuit continuity and what not. I don't think you need to rewire the whole car.
Start with one item at a time.

Check that the lighter is plugged in (behind the applique plate)
Check lighter fuse
Check defrost fuse

Is your GN completely stock? If you’re not sure you may want to request if someone on this forum in your area would take a look at it for you, it may already have some upgrades. You can post some pics of the engine bay, a lot of guys on here can tell you some of what you have just from that. Search “first upgrades to stock GN” or similar. As to the electrical problem, check to see if the fuse box got wet somehow. If your going to start modifying be sure to read up on ‘knock’ so you don’t break it. The more you read the better, will save you a lot of money as well.

I would bet that someone used the cig lighter power to run the stereo and it pulled too many amps and burned the wiring. Good luck

When I bought my car I had a long list of things like yours that didnt work either. My turn signals wouldn't cancel on their own, horn didn't work, back up lights didn't work and neither did the cruise control or electric door locks. I have got everything but the door locks fixed by myself. I am not even going to list everything under the hood that was screwed up.

The best way to learn is read and try your best to figure everything out. It just takes time and patience. The guys on the board can steer you in the right direction but you have to still figure some of it out on your own.
