Hip replacement

Well it looks like I need my left hip replaced due to a damaged socket, and that will be my second. I had the first one done in '05 due to a soccer injury and after I recooped I can't tell it was even done (in a good way) no loss of motion & no more pain. :biggrin: If anyone has hip problems DO NOT WAIT to have it replaced , it was the best thing I could have done with no regrets . Don't live with the pain !! Sam

Had both hips replaced and to celebrate I went out and bought a new GN 25 years ago. I am thankful to say that both the hips and the GN are doing well! I pitched every inning of every game for my softball team for 18 years starting 6 months after surgery. I now golf 5 days a week.

Glad to hear that yours are still going strong after all those years , I hope mine lasts just as long. I had my first one done at 49 and can't wait to get rid of this pain , but I have to wait until after the first of the year. :smile: Sam

yea in the same boat my doc wants me to get it done but with all the recalls it scares me because i already had left knee scoped right knee fracture still have 2 pins in the right knee and now my left hip just really tired of those operations and then the rehab but i cant walk far cant play ball with my boys 17 & 12 years old i used to coach football for both of them now i can only sit on the side lines yelling what the hell is going on out there lol.really missed being out there on the field with the kids not just mine but the whole team .really thinking about it now .glad it worked out for you . and i am only 47 years old .sad

hello; These days I believe there getting pretty good at replacing things so if I had alot of pain as you say I'd think be in favor of the procedure.... But I saw a few procedures on TV and the hip was one. They had a pistol drill and a ball end mill at the end of it and they where drilling out the hip and the doc was saying that's what
I want. "The oozing bone blood will adhere to the prosthesis better" It's amazing they can do what they do. The one that kinda bothered me was a spine procedure and seeing the patients spine all exposed gave me the creeps.

BPMAN , They did have a problem with one hip joint but the problem was with the machining coolant not being completly washed off of the joint. It caused the bone to not grow onto the backside of the socket so it would loosen up , that problem was resolved and it was only one maker of joints ( mine was not that make ). The recovery is pretty quick and pain after is almost nothing compaired to the pain you feel now . I am told knees are alot worse than hips as far as recoop time and pain . Thats why I can't wait for January to get here.:biggrin: Sam
