Mine have been off for years also. Car looks smoother without it.

I do still have the factory pieces that I'm holding on to, as I may decide to pay off my mortgage with them

I think your car looks great without them. I'm kinda leaning toward leaving mine off too. At least for a while. I uploaded pics of mine on photobook and so far, I just know how to put a link in my post. How did you put the actual picture up there?

I'm a new guy here and I just bought a 1987 GN. It needed some work so I got started. Now, it's in the paint shop and I should get it back later this week. I went to check on it yesterday and they guy painting said we need to get the passenger side wheel well molding. I said ok shouldn't be a problem. I called around but no luck. I called GBody Parts and they told me they had them and they were already powder coated. Cool, I thought this would be easy. They he gave me the price...$250.00 EACH!!! What the hell? He said well, they're hard to find so they're expensive. Well, I didn't buy those. I did however find a website that had them in stock for $59.00 shipped for a set of 4 that were stainless steel. (The salesman said they were stainless anyway)

PartsTrain.com - Hard to Find Auto Parts and Truck Parts Here's the link for their site.

They had some other regal/GN parts too That I thought were reasonably priced. Just thought I'd let you know.

Eric didn't quote you $250 each. The right rear no dings no dents no pits etc original media blasted & coated is $225 to $250. If we get 30 cars in here I may get 1 that is perfect. That is alot of vehicles bought to get 1 molding.

The problem I realized years ago I send you 1 for $75.00 with a few minor dings & needs paint. I get a phone call, then an e-mail, then another call, then another e-mail from your work e-mail going to 4 of our e-mail addresses, telling me every flaw that is on the molding with pics photo shopped in red expressing dissatisfaction. About 3 years ago after shipping out 20 year old plus parts to hear this doesn't match my other 20+ year old trim I said the hell with it.

We now media blast & coat them to like new condition. That is the most expensive molding on the GN. The rest are alot cheaper. If you get some from parts train please let us know how they turn out. I too would like to be able to offer a new part reasonably priced.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing your parts, I've ordered parts from you guys before and I've been very happy with them. I also realize that these are one of the first body parts on a car to get damaged so it makes good ones that came off a GN or Regal hard to find. I just don't have that kind of money right now to spend on molding. My body shop guy wants to put them back so that's why I went looking. Truth is, I might not even put them back on. I will be happy to let you know what I find from them. They say they are OEM but we'll see, A friend of mine has a GN with the orginal wheel molding on it so I can compare the quality and look but as soon as they come in and I can compare the two I will be happy to let you know what I find.

Actually, I think that looks pretty good. I might just leave mine off. I just can't wait to get it out of the paint shop. I bought this car back in January and haven't got to drive it yet and it's killin' me but I want to it be done right I guess...

Here are some before pics... I was pretty rough. I'll post some interior pics when I get it back before it goes to the interior guy...

All I can say is WOW... Mine didn't need that much work. It looks great now. I'll be doing a before and after thread in the next couple of weeks when I get mine done. I just hope it looks as good as yours...

The one's I hate are the people that say, "If you can't afford the parts then you shouldn't own the car." There are vendors, no let me say, part resellers, and a few well-to-do owners that have that attitude. Well, IMO, that attitude kills our hobby, you know, trying to get rich or super inflating prices because they just happen to have something that is specific to our cars.

Now, I have no problem with making a decent profit, especially if the vendor has invested in tooling or reproducing/reconditioning parts that are no longer available. I am thankful for the vendors like Brian who are investing in our hobby to help keep it alive but if it gets to the point where you have to be rich to maintain our cars then only rich people will be able to afford them.

There are quite a few more middle and lower income people that would drive our cars than they are rich folks who put them up to gather dust. Cars that are driven need to be maintained more than show pieces. Normal people that can't pay $250 for one show quality wheel moulding will go without. When the cars need critical parts that people can't afford then the cars sit. Soon there are more junkers, but with only the rich people who don't drive their cars not needing the parts, there is now no need to salvage these cars. Maybe resellers have hit their homerun by then, maybe not, but one thing is for sure, you'll only see TR's on display.

Keep the prices resonable, it keeps our cars on the road, keeps the hobby alive, and keeps the market going.

But what happens when our supply of junkers run out:eek:

We'll just "borrow" parts off of each other's cars;)

Hey turboball85:biggrin: Your ride looks good!

I like the look of no moulding now that I see it. Makes the car look like it has a bit more flared opening.

I just checked that site out......it lists rear bumper fillers @ 260$ a piece and the fronts at 157$ apiece......I just bought 2 new fronts from GM at 75$ apiece............Buyer beware and compare prices.

+1

Leave the wheel mouldings off. I took mine off and threw them in the trash. It looks sleeker and is easier to was and wax the car.

I repainted my car 4 years ago. If I could do it again, I would have left them off. I seen a few without the trim......and they looked great.
Less chance of rust developing in the future with them off too.

They're making up for the money they are losing on wheel well moldings on bumper fillers and other parts :o

They guy I talked to said it was OEM... They won't be here til next week and my car shold be done by Friday. So, he's painting it and then I'm going to pick it up. I might just leave them off depending on how it looks. Does anyone have any pics with theirs off?

can you report back with what they send you? the ones in the pic on their site look like the blingy ones you see on a lot of caddys.
thanks

I asked the guy about the "bling". He said it's just because they are chrome plated like the ones that come on the Regal. I imagine you would have to go get them powdercoated.

I'm going to post a new thread when they come in with pictures of what I find. Like I said, a friend of mine has a GN with the original molding that I can do a side by side comparison too.

the ones on the regal are stainless steel. I'd get some stainless ones from some junker and scuff and paint them

LOL! I'm finally gonna get off the pot and blast all my rust spots tomorrow. I'll let you know if I have a car left:rolleyes:

I agree 100% with what you are saying. We are working on getting alot of products built. We often get our prices from what GM sold for originally & what other companies sell parts for. If we can get a chrome & make it look new it reflects in the price as well.

My statement was saying if asked "I'm on a budget & I realize that a mint part that is tough to find & is hi dollar". Then ask can you get me one that I can do some work to to make perfect. Then we would respond yes we can get you this or that. Keep in mind that low mileage wrecked GN's aren't cheap. We pay big $ for them so that reflects the price. We have to recover the $ laid out ,shipping to get a disabled vehicle to us,then make a profit to re-invest to make hot air down pipes,GN aluminum wheels, interior parts,etc...

Only thing I ask is: ASK us for another route. We are always going to offer the best part we have first. When I read posts like did they send the KY,He wanted $250 each for moldings, it makes us look bad to all who read this.
I go out of my way to help people not spend $ by throwing parts at their car. Eric & I talk customers out of $2k a week in parts. We could just ship to customers & not try to trouble shoot problems. we do say daily no you don't need this all you need is this part. We ship parts out & say see if this fixes it if it does buy it if not send it back.

If you go on our site & see how many parts we have built for these cars you'll see we are not just buying parts some one else labored over & reap the rewards. We BUILD alot of the discontinued parts for these cars. We will make a profit doing it & build more parts. Alot of parts we built we get a 90day -6 month exclusive then every other company out there re-sells.

It drives me nuts when I hear this company is $5.00 cheaper then yours. I feel like saying I never heard their name announced supporting at Bowling Green, race events,or donating parts to club events. I don't see them building parts. I don't say it but believe me I think it. :D
