I do still have the factory pieces that I'm holding on to, as I may decide to pay off my mortgage with them
Matt
I'm a new guy here and I just bought a 1987 GN. It needed some work so I got started. Now, it's in the paint shop and I should get it back later this week. I went to check on it yesterday and they guy painting said we need to get the passenger side wheel well molding. I said ok shouldn't be a problem. I called around but no luck. I called GBody Parts and they told me they had them and they were already powder coated. Cool, I thought this would be easy. They he gave me the price...$250.00 EACH!!! What the hell? He said well, they're hard to find so they're expensive. Well, I didn't buy those. I did however find a website that had them in stock for $59.00 shipped for a set of 4 that were stainless steel. (The salesman said they were stainless anyway)
PartsTrain.com - Hard to Find Auto Parts and Truck Parts Here's the link for their site.
They had some other regal/GN parts too That I thought were reasonably priced. Just thought I'd let you know.
Eric didn't quote you $250 each. The right rear no dings no dents no pits etc original media blasted & coated is $225 to $250. If we get 30 cars in here I may get 1 that is perfect. That is alot of vehicles bought to get 1 molding.
The problem I realized years ago I send you 1 for $75.00 with a few minor dings & needs paint. I get a phone call, then an e-mail, then another call, then another e-mail from your work e-mail going to 4 of our e-mail addresses, telling me every flaw that is on the molding with pics photo shopped in red expressing dissatisfaction. About 3 years ago after shipping out 20 year old plus parts to hear this doesn't match my other 20+ year old trim I said the hell with it.
We now media blast & coat them to like new condition. That is the most expensive molding on the GN. The rest are alot cheaper. If you get some from parts train please let us know how they turn out. I too would like to be able to offer a new part reasonably priced.
Actually, I think that looks pretty good. I might just leave mine off. I just can't wait to get it out of the paint shop. I bought this car back in January and haven't got to drive it yet and it's killin' me but I want to it be done right I guess...
Here are some before pics... I was pretty rough. I'll post some interior pics when I get it back before it goes to the interior guy...

Check out my link. I bought mine in Aug. 2007 and drove it for more than a week for the first time in Oct. 2008. I feel your pain. My before's and after's are in my link
The one's I hate are the people that say, "If you can't afford the parts then you shouldn't own the car." There are vendors, no let me say, part resellers, and a few well-to-do owners that have that attitude. Well, IMO, that attitude kills our hobby, you know, trying to get rich or super inflating prices because they just happen to have something that is specific to our cars.
Now, I have no problem with making a decent profit, especially if the vendor has invested in tooling or reproducing/reconditioning parts that are no longer available. I am thankful for the vendors like Brian who are investing in our hobby to help keep it alive but if it gets to the point where you have to be rich to maintain our cars then only rich people will be able to afford them.
There are quite a few more middle and lower income people that would drive our cars than they are rich folks who put them up to gather dust. Cars that are driven need to be maintained more than show pieces. Normal people that can't pay $250 for one show quality wheel moulding will go without. When the cars need critical parts that people can't afford then the cars sit. Soon there are more junkers, but with only the rich people who don't drive their cars not needing the parts, there is now no need to salvage these cars. Maybe resellers have hit their homerun by then, maybe not, but one thing is for sure, you'll only see TR's on display.
Keep the prices resonable, it keeps our cars on the road, keeps the hobby alive, and keeps the market going.
I just checked that site out......it lists rear bumper fillers @ 260$ a piece and the fronts at 157$ apiece......I just bought 2 new fronts from GM at 75$ apiece............Buyer beware and compare prices.
They guy I talked to said it was OEM... They won't be here til next week and my car shold be done by Friday. So, he's painting it and then I'm going to pick it up. I might just leave them off depending on how it looks. Does anyone have any pics with theirs off?
can you report back with what they send you? the ones in the pic on their site look like the blingy ones you see on a lot of caddys.
thanks
Hey turboball85:biggrin: Your ride looks good!
I like the look of no moulding now that I see it. Makes the car look like it has a bit more flared opening.
