I have cable broad band internet service.
I had the cable modem hooked up to a chap $19.00 router and two computers hardwired to the router.

But now my kid and my nephew both have laptops and wanted Wireless internet.
So I picked up a linksys WRT54G2, I then installed it following the directions to the letter but this POS keeps loosing the IT service works one minutes then stops working and then it gives me a (removed cable from their sockets) Can any one help me with the POS?
Mean wile the nothing has been touched and when I hook back up the $19.00 Wired router everything works perfect.

Also I get the Error codes in all the computers (hardwired and wireless)

Call your isp. You prolly have to log onto the router and change some settings. They will walk you through.

If switching routers, they have a set lease time for your external dhcp address. Power everything off for ten minutes and disconnect the cable from the cable modem. Power up the cable modem and then bring up your router ten minutes after the modem comes up new. Give the modem five minutes to come up and the router ten or so to get an address. I have issues when I play around with different firewalls on timewarner's cable service. I can't connect unless I follow that process. Give it a shot.

this must have been it.
it is now working after doing as you said.

It happens to me once a month. Disconnect modem then router. I wait a minute or so and reconnect them in the same order.

Just wondering, you did all that and its still not on a wireless router?

Let me start from the beginning

Life is good with Wired only router and Broadband.
THEN my kid and nephew got Wireless lap-tops
SO I got a NEW Wireless Router.
This NEW wireless router did not work (I got Error messages)
And that’s when this thread was born.
Then klrv6 suggested that I disconnect all cables from everything (NEW Router & Modem) and leave it disconnected for ten minutes
Then ten minutes later I reconnected the modem and the NEW wireless router that’s also has wired connections.
And WALA life is good again
The router and modem seem to be working good.

Wireless routers love to send signals to their recipents(wireless cards) even if you are hard wired directly to it, I know, been there. Depending on which brand you need to config it's parimeters, it will have it's own firewall and port settings, yes they do "Plug and Play", just not very well untill it's configed.
I have used both Linksys and Netgear, info is available if wanted.

When using cablevisions optonline service, you need to disconnect the modem from power when switching between routers. The mac address of the modem and router need to bind together as they call it to issue you a new temp IP address. When I do service calls and need to upgrade or replace routers, I usually clone the mac of the old router so cablevision don't have to lease a new IP for a few days, then when it expires they reissue you your original IP. My company has been providing service to businesses and home owners for 15 years on Long Island and I am very familiar with cablevision's system and setting routers to work properly on there network.... But they do work out of the box usually, just faster, secure and more stable setup correctly

The 54G2 linksys has an issue of dropping wireless connection quite often. Upgrading to the latest firmware and disabling UPNP will help some for now. I am still doing testing on this hardware.
