I’m sure this has been covered before, I couldn’t find the thread. From the driver’s side I have a creaking sound, it sounds like it comes from the top part of the dash.. drives me nuts.

Thanks in advance for your reply...

Very common issue!!! It's actually that rubber bump stop that is under the hood, just in front of the center of the windshield. Lubricate it on its top with your favorite lube, and the creak will go quiet.

And if you ever want to fix it quickly on the fly while away from home just pull the dipstick out and smear a little motor oil from the stick onto the bump stop.

We had a cutlass that drove us nuts and it ended up being the windshield. It was installed too low ?? Thats what the glass place told him. They told him it was hitting the body. They pulled the glass and reinstalled it and the noise was gone We drove with the hood off and the noise was the same. I thought for sure it was the hood stop because that's a real common problem.

I did that once myself on a trip back from PA. It was either that or blast the stereo . That noise can make you want to drive into a bridge abutment.

Is this noise a squeak at the top of the windshield? I have one there that just started as it got cold.

Wow, that had to the easiest and most effective fix. That noise was driving me insane, was ready to pull my dash apart.
Thanks again...

That happens when the installer fails to use the little spacer blocks, to support the glass.

Advise is correct to go a little further put some of the white grease and the rubber stops that line the side of your inner fender to the hood. What happens you hood is shifting.

Also install any of the front end brace kits available to help stiffen up the car.

This tip was just one of many many I covered in the two tips and trivia books I wrote based on owning over 300 of these cars....can't say I experience every quirk with these cars but I seen my fair share of them.

And all jokes aside, but Anal-Eze works for about 3 years+ to shut that rattle up.

^^^^^bahaha

And only Earl would have multiple purposes for Anal-Eze.
Ladies and Gentlemen - I highly recommend you sanitize those timing chain covers you purchase from Earl.
You don't know whose hands have been on them. :D

Nobody knows where these hands have been.

....but I do :D

LOL - free plug for your Timing Chain covers - "All Timing Covers By Earl Come Pre-lubricated from our factory - lovingly lubricated by our dedicated team of former Oriental Massage Parlor workers"

They are defiantly pre lubed.

not from the tears of orphans though. I save that for my sammiches. It goes great with unicorn blood.

A small square of Velcro (soft side) on the rubber bumper is another option. Works great and lasts!
