Just curious... What's the "Power Injection" light suposed to indicate originaly?

apparently Buick was planning on putting water injection on a hot air but went with an IC so all the cars had the ligths but didnt use them.

There is a plug near the wiper motor that hooks right up to that light. It was on the 84,I will have to see if it is on my 86' too.

actually they were planning on using water/alcohol injection in the intercooled cars too if the GN was to be produced after 1987 but the government and crash testing and other various safety rules caused the idea to go out the window...some people back then thought that kind of power from the factory was insane and would cause many deaths...just imagine the GN if it were continued with production in 1988? definitely over 300 horses from the factory then...

It wouldnt matter because there is no light or socket at all in the dash, just an empty hole. At least on an 87

I think the socket is there on the harness behind the dash but is not mounted in the actual hole and no bulb in it either.I remember there being more than one empty socket in there too.

How did you get to the socket? My speedo assembly would only come out about an inch, and could not get behind it whatsoever. Thats why I did it the way I did, since it only took 5 min to re run the wires.

I replaced my dash with the Cyberdyne digital dash & there aint no spare sockets behind the dash. I bought a socket at my local auto parts house.

Well to be fair Roger, Dave has an 86 and we have 87's, so maybe they were on the 86's. Anyone else with an 86 have a wired socket behind the dash but not plugged in?

I had the cluster out,you needed to disconnect the speedo cable and you would have had enough room.

To be more fair this was actually my 84 T I'm talking about.I though they would have just used the same harness seeing it is the same dash from 84-87 but I guess not.Next time I change a lamp in there I'm gonna look, and If I see them I'll take a pic.I know on the 86 the green(?)wire is there for it just as it was on the 84,that I did see.It is located by the wiper motor, sticks out of the harness only a little and is sometimes taped back onto the harness. Now with that being there it has to go somewhere hence my assumption about the empty sockets. Now you got me wanting to take my dash apart lol!! I have never had an 87 so not sure if they have either wire, but it sounds like they don't.Ah well add that to the long list of reasons why the 86's are better than the 87's j/k:D

Hey Dave, if you are at the next WNY Buick club meeting we have to talk about this one, I am very interested in this lite setup. I have to do this on my '86. Thanks

Wouldnt this be a better idea?????

Yes the light is telling you the Hobbs switch is made ,but that does not tell you that (1) your alki pump is working and (2) that there is alki in the tank ..

sounds like you need to sense PSI in the hose and then have the light come on!!!

What cha think

It does the same thing an SMC light does, tells you there is power getting to the pump. How a light can know the difference between that and if the pump is actually pumping is beyond me. What you are saying would require input from a float switch, the Hobbs switch, and a flow switch that measures flow through the line.

My system has no flow switch and no float switch. My goal was to get the light to come on, not make the system idiot proof (not saying you are an idiot, just saying thats what it sounds like you would like yours to be)

I was thinking about a Hobbs switch that would sense a PSI ,course the hobbs switch would not last having alki in it ,,but there has to be something in that Mcmaster Carr catalog that could sense a PSI and would be alki proof... Just trying to save a motor from Detonatioon...

An audible knock gauge would be much simpler and faster reacting. Instead of jumping on the gas, realizing there is not PI light on the dash, and then getting off it, the audible detector would allow you to get off the gas before the HEAVY detonation starts. I am going to be ordering one from Caspers soon.
