Hello all, How many of you take your turbo's on long trips? I say long to be about 200 miles each way for a weekend getaway, probably about 3 times a year. Are there any problems people have encountered due to the extended use? Thanx.

I drove straight through from MA to Bristol TN for Buicks at Bristol (12+ hours) twice without a problem. Nothing really different than any other 20+ year old car:)

Bring some spare parts, cam sensor, hoses, belt, etc. and you should be fine if you car is in decent shape.

I've driven mine from Memphis to San Antonio and Houston to Albuquerque - great car for road trips.

Long distance trips is where most of the miles on my Buick come from. I drive it from SC to LA once or twice a year. Some summers I drive from SC to Mass. I have a S-10 p/u that I drive daily and it is a regular cab so its not very comfortable to drive on long distance trips. The paint on my Buick isn't really all that great so thats just one less thing I have to worry about. (road rash) If someone told me that I had to drive my Buick to WA state from SC today the only question I would have for them is how I am being re-imbursed for the gas:biggrin: The car currently has about 180k miles on it.

Mine's wonderful, but I have to put the stock chip back in it. It spools so rapidly with the Extender chip in it that you can't set the cruise control. You end up in cycle of boost past the setpoint, then slowdown, then boost past it again...

Wonderful!

Bring spare parts? no need unless you're one of those owners who worry about everything going out when driving! ;)

They do great!

One thing i hate though is when im on the highway, it's the rocks being flown up from the drivers in front of me. Thats the negative when driving them on the highway, the rocks.

I drive mine to either to my parents or my gfs college which are 120 and 190 miles one way every other weekend or so. It has done fine and gets 21-24 mpg depending on trafffic.

Drove mine from Los Angeles , California all the way accross the deserts of arizona, through the hills of utah, into the high elevation mountains of Colorado.... i dont remember the exact milage, but its around 1200-1700miles.. cant remember..it was fun....

My car has 135k on it, bought it in 1990. I have zero issues driving it anywhere. We drive from Fort Worth Texas to Bowling Green kentucky every year. I do car a spare ECM, cam sensor, crank sensor, upper and lower radiator hose, serp belt, coil and coil pack and a few other odds and ins. All item fit in a small tool box just in case i happen to break down in a small town. I have never had an issue so far. Probably overkill. I like to take the car any chance i get.

I've got lots road trips on mine too. I wouldn't hesitate driving my GN anywhere.

I never understood hauling around spare parts either. No need for any of that crap if you keep on top of your car. You know if the car breaks it aint going to be something simple. More like a spun bearing or broken hard part. Maybe even the tranny going out. I'd rather carry a AAA membership card than a trunk full of tools and parts any day.

I carry the simple spare parts you wont find in the local parts store as mentioned before. Better safe than sorry. Why end your trip due to a 30min.-1hr repair. Its still a 20+ year old car so AAA is great to have for major issues.

That's great news, Ill be looking for another turbo soon as my 93 stang sells. Reading all the above posts, 200 miles seems pretty easy.

I drove from here to Bristol (7 or 8 hours IIRC) for the old Buick event, raced, then drove home.

I've driven to BG quite a few times, but haven't raced there yet (not a GSCA member).

i love taking mine on long trips!!!! i"ve done the PowerTour [long hauling] for the last two years - and the wife and i are already planning for next year.

I've done trips to Englishtown, PA, Lebanon Valley, Boston area and car was fine. Can't say the same for my butt though, our seats aren't the greatest that's for sure.:)

Performance-wise they do fine, 25-27 mpg if you drive it easy (typically) and merging in abd out of traffic is a snap but Mark is right: the seats can be a bit punishing after a while.

Plus 1 , I did lose a Tranny a few years back , But that was my fault for useing Used parts. besides that , Never had a problem OD & AC very nice.

After couple of hours it is rough on the back side

the seats can be a bit punishing after a while.

July I moved from Mich to FL, not straight through, eastern KY, down to Kingsport TN for 10 days then down here to FL. Had about a 1000 pounds in the trunk and back seat plus our cat who was unleashed and runnin wide in the car.

I have no probs with punishing seats as my full leather park ave seats are mighty comfy

I used to drive round trip from Portland, Oregon to L.A., California all the time 2000 miles round trip. The only issue was my back  Seats are not that comfortable. :(

I drove mine on a 1000 + mile move from NC to MO. No problems, even in snowy March, and I concur I'd rather have a good AAA policy. No problems during the trip.
