My only experiance is with the 200-4r to this point. How much different would the 4L60E be to O/H? Isn't it the same as a 700r4 but with electronic VB?

My dad's 93 chevy truck is probably going need to a tranny overhaul and I wondered about doing it myself. Not high preformance, just for pulling racecars. ;)

We might already have access to a 700r4 rebuild kit, wouldn't it be the same with the exception of maybe the VB? I could get a valvebody kit to take care of that end.

What year is the 700 rebuild kit from? The later 4L60 and 4L60E's need the solid teflon rings on the input shaft as where the early models used the scarf cut rings. Solenoids should be replaced at rebuild time so as not to have to pull the pan back down afterwards if they short out, open or stick. The filter is also shaped different to clear the manifold pressure switch assembly. Valve body gaskets are different. Yours should have the 1-2 accumulator like the non-electronic 700's. I have used the TransGo kit in the E's with EXCELLENT results...just without using the spring packs in the input drum assembly. In otherwords, I used the factory return springs and the customer was WAY happier. I also use a large "case saver" on the low sprag assembly to avoid the case tangs from getting damaged as most of the ones I have built are abused pretty regularly. Teflon coated bushing in the pump and NO kevlar band. A red band works excellent. :D

Replace both sprag elements and make sure the surfaces are good. Make sure the tangs on the reverse input drum aren't flared out (evidence of forward sprag slipping) as they will scuff the inside of the case. Make sure the sun shell splines are still there as they will wear away and leave sharp splines and eventually strip and then you will have first gear, neutral and park.:D
