How many guys run 4.1s, and give some info on build, and ETs. Production blocks!

When we arrived at the track tonight at 7 PM to do some testing of my fresh 4.1 stock block, the truck thermometer was showing 113 deg!

About the time we first ran it was down 10+ deg.

The first 2 runs blew away the tires. So I launched the third time at 4+ psi/3000 RPM for a 1.52 60', ET was 10.20 @ 133 MPH. I was very happy to run those times with 19 psi max boost at 100+ deg.

This 4.1 has AWESOME low end, spools to max launch boost in 1/2 sec., top end pulls unblievable at only 19 psi!:)

In decent weather/track conditions, easy low 9's with the boost turned up. Great build, but like most good things not cheap. From oil pan to intake, would take $13k to duplicate.

What are the specs of the build?

It has 2 steel caps, hard-block, forged internals, roller cam, alum heads, stock ported intake, RJC deep pan, copper head gaskets w/o-rings, and using a 70 BB turbo.:)

Wow ,is that a production block? Also the oil pan fit in a stock GN, and does it have a windage tray?

The earlier turbo Regals that use 14 bolt oil pan has the windage tray & yes fit nicely.

Well i will have to use them to fit my budget, but i didnt know it, but my 109 has them in it, and i have blown the HG at least 6times getting all kinds of knock, and they havent broke yet. This is a cheap build to see if i can do it. All i can say is if they havent broke with me, there some dam good pistons. This last time i blew mt HGs i got 105 in knock, and they are still good.

The machine work and assembly has more to do with how much hypers can take than the actual material itself.

Hypers take a real tight piston to wall clearance (more power) and forged take real loose, hypers .001-.0015 vs. forged .0045-.005.

Too much clearance on hypers will make them break easier than a little detonation. Just make sure your machinist knows the right way to set up your block for them, and use cheap headgaskets as a sort of relief valve like I do.

I rarely blow HG's but I would rather that than replace a shortblock.

I have the felpro 1000s, is that to good of a HG, or do i need to get the stock HGs? The shop said they thought i was getting forged pistons, he seem upset. You think he already cut the block to big? I will check before assembly.

1000's are tough gasket, but they may be OK,I just use the really cheap gray fel pro's from autozone or O'reilly's.

I hope your machinist didn't cut your block without having the pistons on hand.

No good machinist I know cuts a block without having the actual parts being used on hand . He should mic and make sure clearances are correct due to any slight manufacturing differences. That is if he is a thorough machinist.

Congrats nick. Great runs now turn the boost up and lets see what she will really do :)

Got the engine back yester day, but had to take rotating assem to my other shop, because they were trying to get over, and they didnt clean the deck. Anyone got a cell# number, or email i could send to you, and you can put the pics on here for me?

4.1 project

Thx for posting the pics for me, i just cant seem to get the jest of these gadgets, but this is the 4.1 block im doing, it has the biggest oil hole to the mains ive ever seen! Wish me luck.

I finally made my trip to nashville to pick my motors up, i drove from 8am there, picked them up, bs for over an hour, and drove home in the rain both ways at got home at 2am this morning.

Anyway, id take some pics of my production 4.1, but they arent out of my truck yet!

One is a standard 4.1 with a set of hypers, i figure if i find a car in need of a motor, a 218 cam and good heads ought to make it run better then a fast LS1 or cobra car.

The price was less than 2K for 2 motors to be built, i supplied the caps and pistons.... Did i say nashville,,, i meant clarksville tennessee

The 3.8 is a arp 3 steel cap trw coated piston roller cam setup for my charcoal car. I have the 67bb turbo tony dequick front mount, 60s and it should run low 10s off the brake :)
