Guys I said I was trying to figure this out. Brian looked and looked hoping we could find the title. If it was an NC title it would have been no problem. However being were weren't for sure which state it was titled in I couldn't just call the state DMV and find out......

I have asked some law enforcement friends to run the number and get me a registered owner by it hadn't happened yet... Well Daniel Ray offered to help, he tried and he had something come up. I have been trying.

After Glen sent me a PM saying this particular guy owned it I got studying the thread saw the guy that he bought it from. Well I think according to Brian's memory the title matches his state... I sent him a PM last night, as soon as I hear back from him I will let Glen know....

The owner Glen has talked to never sent the title off it appears, that is why we can't do it from him....

Brian had the title, it got lost or stolen with some of Brians other stuff. There was no ill intent, no shady things, or anything.

I will be the first to say this has been embarrassing to me and all I can do is apologize. I never had the title, I am trying people. I have apologized to Glen numerous times as well.... I want him to have the title and enjoy the car and wish none of this would have happened....

Hopefully when that member gets the PM today all this will be over!

I don't think anyone is saying any of this is a shady deal or anything. What i think I hear and see from the comments is that this guy had to turn into the "Squeaky wheel" to get something he should have already had......at least people are applying the oil now!

I agree with you, this is 7 months old and NOW they are trying which i really dont see by the way....you CAN go to ANY dmv and give them the vin and it will tell you who its registered to,just like doing a carfax...

Find out whos name it is in,contact that person and have them go down and have a instant tiltle made(they do that in my state for $8),this will happen if you bug the person that the car is titled to,but it wont happen by waiting for this person to return pms or wait for Brian to keep looking for 7 months for a tiltle he misplaced(which should take only 1 hour to see its not there),get it handled and make it a priority, push buttons and get this guy his title!

Im curious how long this guy would have had to of waited if he didnt make this post?Id be pissed, even if it was sorta free,he could be in possetion of a stolen car if someone puts it in there name and calls it in,then the owner of this board would be in some deep dodo,id make this happen fast if it was me...

The proverbial wheel has been turning... We were hoping to find the title. I have been trying to get help for months. Like I said being an out of state car and not knowing the exact state didn't help.... Brian had the title in his possession and paid for the car. It just got lost.....................

Again with everything put into this car and the whole thing, I want this over as much as anyone, not including Glen... Again Glen I apologize.

IN Ky, can you go to your insurance company and ask for a bonded title like i did here in Ga a few years ago?

I think we have something going now:biggrin:

i think it would be a shame if the toys for tots people found out about this issue. 7 months? gggggeeeeesssss!! a guy around here was just put in jail over an issue very close to this one.

"Broadway Title" in Alabama can get you one..

On another note, why can't someone contact an officer, have them run the number and find out the last registered owner? It isn't that difficult.

Glen, I sure hope you got some sort of paperwork stating where and how you rec'd the car should any questions ever come up.. I would also save a copy of all the threads relating to this car showing your the legitimacy of your possession of the car.

Good luck...

Or, just hack it up and make it a strip car!!:)

I got no paperwork of any kind from anybody.

It just got lost.....................

I'd like it to finally be over as well. I understand the apologies, but in all fairness, your not the one that had the car and lost the title.

Contact the DMV in your state and ask what is required to apply for a replacement title. Do you have documentation from the previous owners who's name is on the lost title that it is your car? If so, pay the tax and fees and you should be good to go.

In some states you can pay $30 and get the title right then instead of waiting. Not sure if that is a option with a replacement though.

Take the preivious owner to the DMV. Make sure they have the proper identification. He tells them he is selling/giving you the vehicle and produces a vin number and mileage number. They will print out a new title on the spot which he will sign over to you and you register the car right then and there.

If there are multiple owners then "they all have to be there" or he has to produce power of attorney for all of them to conduct the transaction.

I know this because I did just that today on a 99 Jeep I was buying and the owner could not find the title. DMV voided the old one printed a new one and charged him $37.00 which he signed over to me, I signed it and gave it back to the clerk with the tax due and they gave me a registration and a plate. My title will be here in 2-3 weeks. Took 20 minutes total.

I have made contact with the titled owner, at least I am 99% sure he is. He has GRASIOUSLY offered to go to the DMV and apply for a lost title. As soon as I hear back from him I will pass the info on!

A huge thanks to him.....

Glenn..I'll give ya 1000 bucks for your headaches!!!;)
Hope it all works out for ya!

No pun intended to anyone here but this is the reason it is illegal to "title jump." Or at least here in Iowa it is. It puts too much liability on the "titled owner." He could have taken the car back, even after all of the work and the giveaway if the title wasnt signed by "the purchaser."
