I just recently bought some centerline telstars and I wanted to paint them black. I have painted plenty of other sets of rims and never had a problem before. None of them were chrome though. When I tried to paint one of them it didn't come out as expected. What is the proper way to paint chrome rims? I am assuming that I will have to remove the chrome. What wiill do that? Thanks in advance!

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't all Centerline Telstars come in aluminum? Perhaps your set was custom chromed.
In any event, a solution of hydrochloric acid and water will strip chrome. Be aware this is a very dangerous mixture and all safety precautions must be adhered to. I would not recommend stripping chrome at home.

I dont think they were custom chrome the finish was in bad shape and I thouhgt it would look better black. So i guess my next question would be anyone know why the paint would not be sticking?

The only way that I can think of to do this properly is to have them powdercoated black. It is far moire resistant to peeling and chipping too...

Paint won't stick because of the non-porous characteristic of chrome plating. If you scuffed them up with a medium grit, the paint may stick better.

I agree with a sand blast then powdercoat.

Hear hear, And paint never sticks to bad prep.
