I'm about to install a new timing chain/front cover and have read the cam sensor setup but figured I might be able to do it this way.

Before pulling the cover line up the balancer to 0 degree's on pointer.Pull Cam sensor cover and mark rotor position. Then mark cam sensor body to set spot(straight edge to intake or so.
So when I finish installing parts I can just put balncer back to 0 and install sensor on marks.
Am I missing anything?

Yes, you could be 180 degrees off.

Yes,that could happen, but if I pay attention when pulling the cover and seeing the chain lined up it shouldn't be a problem to line up after I would think.

But is it 0 degrees on the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke? I did the same thing you did and checked later to make sure it was correct and I was on the exhaust stroke. Play it safe, for the extra time it takes.

Just observe the #1 rockers. As the intake closes, thats TDC on #1 compression stroke coming up
