Do a lot of you, do this conversion? I see the conversion outlined on gnttype and it doesn't seem tough at all. My hyrdoboost unit is leaking on the inside of the firewall. So i am thinking it will be easiest to do the conversion and be done with the potential of future leakage. Anybody have any thoughts or comments on this conversion? any good or bad experiences?

Thanks in advance for your time,
Nathyn

Nathyn,

The Hydroboost braking system is an EXCELLENT system! I have the stock braking system, and I can hold well over 10PSI on the brakes at the line. Unlike the later model "PowerMaster" brakes the early cars were blessed with an extremely strong, and dependable braking system....why change it out for a Vacuum set up?

If I were in your shoes I would simply repair your Hydroboost system and be done with it!

(GM still uses the Hydroboost system in some new trucks...that gives you an idea on how well this system works!)

Thanks for the response.

I would like to keep the system if i can, i just got the impression that a lot of people converted it to vacuum assist, thats why i was asking.

Mine leaks into the drivers compartment. Is the seal that is leaking something i can pick up anywhere, or do i have to get a remanufactured unit?

Thanks,
Nathyn

I had the leaking problem early on.......put in a re-man 5 yrs ago and I can 2nd Herbs 10 psi on the brakes.

Always feels consistant (unless the PS belt getts loose or wet) and worlds better than the powerbastard on 85^.

I only trap at 103ish but I have no probs slowing down....unlike one of my I/C friends who put all kinds of pads and even rotors on his last car trying to get it to shut down in time after trapping at 108.

Even with the stock vacc canister on the Ty you have to rev it at the line to really get the vac you need to hold 10 psi.

Kinda a pita when bracket racing or a impromtu street challenge.

I vote for the hydroboost.
