Ignition Module Hotwire Installation

Glad you got it working. The "P" terminal on the ignition module supplys power for the module. I would keep it "hotwired" for sure. All you have to do is run a wire from "87" on the relay to the "P" terminal. Just make sure the connection is before the two-step box.

Strange, Bob said there is no need to hotwire the P terminal. What is the power on the M terminal for?
 
The "P" terminal feeds the input voltage to power the ignition module. I would think this would be very important. It appears the two-step "box" manipulates the coil feed which is "M".

Read the following thread and Bob talks about the module pulling 7 amps. Look at the stock wire feeding "P" off the ignition connector. The wire is tiny. Compound its small size with loose/tarnished connections between the module and the ignition switch and you might have a problem that is hard to diagnose. Heat, vibration, loose connection could cause intermittent interruption to the spark at varying RPM.

All the modern vehicles I have owned in the past years use a relay to control the ignition system.

There is no performance to be gained by feeding more voltage into pin P. It just feeds the logic/sync circuitry in the module.

Hot wiring pin M feeds more voltage to the coils, which has performance benefits.

LOL...that's ALL it does? Geez, if that's not important I don't know what is :biggrin:

Seriously, I don't know that there is much performance "gain" to any of this. I am looking for adequate power supply and consistency to the module and coil.
 
I've been working with TurboBob on getting this hotwire setup to work with his 2-step box. I just installed it last night and both the hot wire kit and the 2 step work great. Here is a modified picture of how I wired it in:

From what I was told from Bob, hotwiring Pin P does nothing, so I simply spliced into Pin M. You will do away with the fuse adapter for the original 2 step wiring and bring those pink and red wires under the hood to the relay. I used an ATO fuse holder directly off the alternator and grounded the relay at the firewall. Here is how I mounted mine:

ok, let me see if i got this right. i currently have the caspers CCCI hotwire so this shouldn't be to hard to do. so unplug the current 2 step red and pink which is pluged into the ccci fuse at the fuse box. run those wires into the engine bay. cut the fuses adapter off so the red and pink wires are now singles. then run the wires like your diagram shows.

my current hotwire has 2 wires coming off the relay (86/87)with one hotwire power going to pin M on the ccci side and one hotwire going to pin M on the wiring harness side. so i will cut the one hotwire going to M on the ccci and put the power of the realy to red on the 2step and the pink to the M on the ccci and leave my second hotwire off relay 86 going to the factory wiring.

to easy.. if thats right

Also, my power logger now shows 13.5 volts WOT, before it would dip into the mid 12.5's.
 
sweet, will do. im headed out to arizona next weekend. Also i got my wiring (voltage) issue fixed last time i was out there. i get 14.* on the XFI
 
Good info there!!

I did my own hotwire with my fast start upgrade, it works, just don't know if there is an improvement or not. I'm sure there is though.

Dumg question but what is fast start up?Thanks
