Hi folks,

Just curious if my external cooler is sufficient to keep the tranny cool? I have the B&M bar and plate:

Overall Height: 5.750 in.
Overall Width (in): 11.000 in.
Overall Thickness (in): 1.500 in

BTU rating of 14,400, Summitt Catalog lists it up to 24,000 lbs GVW.

I currently don't have the cooler in my F-body radiator connected. I know connecting it would provide extra comfort, but my question is if just the B&M mounted in front of the AC condenser sufficient to keep the tranny temps under control??

Thanks,
Nate

Cooler

Local trans guy (Jimmys Transmission) told me not to run my fluid thru the radiator if Im using an external cooler. He builds em and stands by them so I think his opinion is the way to go.

Yup same here. He threw on the huge B&M cooler and said screw linking it to the radiator.

Thanks for the replies.....i guess i'll keep tabs on the tranny temps this way with this cooler and see what comes of it...

Thanks,
Nate

ran mine like that for years. then i bought bruces alum radiator and rebuilt my tranny so im running it threw the radiator then the tranny cooler. car runs ice cold with the new radiator so it has to help at least some. either way you should be fine

I'd like to see someone do temp readings of the stock cooler, stock with aftermarket cooler after, stock with aftermarket cooler before and just the aftermarket cooler.

Problem is, you probably need it to be done on a dyno with the fan blowing or else the aftermarket cooler isn't getting any air flow like while driving.

FWIW, I don't use the rad as a cooler either and got a huge B&M also.
And having a bigger pan to add a quart or two will help along with running better fluids which get changed often. ;)

+1 for the big pan. mine took 15 quarts to fill last time

just remember not to do any full throttle blasts til the trans get to normal temp. the trans stays cold longer with a external cooler.
